In this context "precious metals". You may also see it used elsewhere on the site for "private messages"

Thanks renovator - that's what I initially thought but it slowly started making less sense to me being Perth mint

I'm writing this on a PC (and monitor) that was thrown out. The waste in this country is absolutely shocking. My first quad-core machine was also found on a nature strip.

I like my precious metals in active service.

As far as I'm aware, none have been used for scrap yet.

Been doing this a little myself had some old tools beyond repair takrn apart apparently electric motors are worth 1.70 lb in scrap got three right now weighing about 35 lbs. whenever i do dump runs which is often as im a contractor i cut whatever appliance cords i can grab pc towers and just gpt a couple broken lap tops from a buddy. Currently am working on filling a 2 pint mason jar with gold plated fingers and cpus got a little way to go once its full Im gonna try rinsing through aqua regis. my friend has a milling machine so may offer a piece of the blob to him to make me a cast to melt the dust in. Im definately going to put more effort into scrapping in 2013.

just scrapped the two lap tops from my buddy 2 cpus one screen the other was busted. Cut off all the gold plated fingers and added to the mason jar. Couple of motherboards plus theres a nice chunk of copper over the cpu connecting to the fan. i also saved the under side of the mouse pad. Looks like more gold plating than the fingers. Does anyone know what type of gold content per kg of gold plated connections? Just wondering how much I would need to recover a gram of gold. Fun hobby its raining and dark early right now so it seems like free money and a better way to spend your time than watching tv.

It reminds me of picking wild mushrooms spent a lot of time this fall in the bush picking chantarwlles yellow feet chicken of the woods and hedgehogs made a couple grand cash andd really enjoyed being out in the woods finding patches and living life on my own schedule.

Close cut fingers (double sided) yield about 5g / kg
Gold plated header pins yield around 1-1.5g / kg

Try scrap metal recyclers, but from experience expect a very low return.

    Sims metal in Noble Park
You'll need to set up an account
Or $50 a week with no ABN
The smaller scrapyard will pay 50% but you want need an ABN
