For the "similar design" the series for me starts with the year of the ox in 2009.
Each year there is a, Fan shape, a flowered shape (you call it scallop) a round one and a coulored round one in size 1oz.
The "similar design" you can see on the coloured rounds the best.

I cant provide pics because they got too expensive with the year of the dragon.
Prices explode with the dragon, but short after that the bubble looks like popped.

Mintagesvare different between the sizes and the years. The rounds are the cheapest, followed by fanshped
    coulored / flowershaped.
New year release of the goat coud start this year around 100-130AU$.

I dont know exactly but i think AU markets is very small. Most outside china could be USA and germany
But there are a lot of speculators getting burned with them.

Flower (Scallop) shape start from rooster for this series. It is the S11 for this shape.

The fan S11 or S111 start from dragon. Horse is the 3rd year.

I do not follow round and color round. Color round has diff design of the round, flower and fan shapes.

Flower ox fetch the higher price of the whole set as at now.

Round goat raw might cost more than AUS100 without shipping. Slab will be more expansive.

There are much more fan shaped ones. I have already seen closed circles of 12 years, but the matching design began wit the ox in 2009

How come the Chinese lunars demand such a high premium? Due to mintage or popularity?

Only a small part is exported to outside china. Low mintage and hugh demand.
In 2009 and 2010 they were affordable.
All i remember around 250 % premium to POS.
Beginning with the rabbit and then the dragon the prices exploded.

Same with spezial pandas and 5oz, 1kg.
On the high of this bubble you have to pay for a special 1oz panda with mintage 20000 around 280au$

too many reasons of high premium.

demand and supply, speculation, monopoly by few dealers for certain coin to control the market and so on and on.

China has coin platform to trade coin like share ;)
