I picked up a few of these today ,very hard to take a decent photo I bought 9 in total & about 3 are star ruby's I'll take more pics later (going to have a nanna nap now
The CEO took her rings in to get them valued at Benjamins in Lt Bourke St about 12 months ago. There was a bloke talking to David with a couple of stones he had bought from a jeweller in Thailand. David had the unpleasant duty to tell him they were worthless. ...and 1.9 carats of ruby for $200 sets off my BS Detector. JMO OC
FAR too cheap! (unless it has a huge flaw) Take it to Benjamins in Lt Bourke Street, and ask for David. His company has been there for 130 years. Tell him an old codger sent ya!
wholesale From a legitimate local company ABN receipt & all provided , I spent a while going through lots of them & picked what I thought were the best lots I did see 2 really large 3ct + but flawed , they were still cheap
OK, Don't take my word for it. Take it to a reputable valuer and pay to have it valued. OC (Did your source have a 2 carat diamond for $50?)
I don't know values, but from what I have heard Rubies are extremely rare. Watched a Foxtel series on miners in Greenland who found a deposit of Rubies. They were embedded in the rock face sparkling WOW... I am looking forward to seeing the next series were they will be back no doubt to mine. Having a hobby interest in Geology as well, this show went into a bit of that. Not bad bit boring tbh but the end result was pretty amazing. http://www.discoverychannel.com.au/shows/ice-cold-gold
I just told you a BIG lie! Benjamins Jewellers, 360 Lt COLLINS st, Melbourne. If in fact you ARE in Melbourne. Sorry, old timers disease! OC
Spanner is in Melbourne. Simple test - hold a stone up to your eye, shine a light through the bottom of the stone and look for refractive flares inside the stone - blue/red is a ruby, green/yellow is a garnet.
Ruby can be sourced from various parts of the globe, and in varying degrees of quality. The price reflects this. In my opine the best, and most expensive ruby, is from the Mogok Vally in Burma. With these, it really is name your price per carat territory. However, I have also seen some very nice Mozambique rubies.
Rubys are easily obtainable at these prices - ie; low The first image shows a oil treated ruby.. these are usually less valuable. Both those are internally flawed, one has an obvious dark inclusion, the other has internal cracks and splinters... Only those terrible flawless ones dictate the extraordinary prices... Love gems! 1for1
Took them into my jeweller He picked the best one for a pendant his going to make $250 , he said wholesale value $300-$400 And no I didn't take them into the guy OC recommended ran out of time I'll be putting most of them up for sale here ,just got to spend some time taking pics, got told how to take good pics
Took them in there today The prices I had on them is what he said they are worth But just a bit below his standard , he did like one of them . But I don't think he would have bought anything of me
David is about my vintage, and he knows his stuff. As I said his family has been there in business for 130 years. He made a 3 ruby ring for us about 20+ years ago, and they cost a LOT more than $200. Hope you are happy. OC
