Just started to read Ready Player One because the movie coming out next year looks cool. SPOILER (kinda) premise : It's a bleak future, the planet sucks and is gripped in an energy crisis, people live in poverty and spend all their waking hours in a virtual reality game called the OASIS that simulates the real world. The original programmer of the game is one of the wealthiest people on the planet and he dies leaving his will hidden in an easter egg in the game. First to find it wins hundreds of billions of dollars and his company. The thing is, he didn't leave his wealth in stacks of fiat like Brewsters Millions, but in gold bars stacked "as high as a house", and showed it in his video will that the entire planet saw. I though this was interesting and given the no doubt popularity of the upcoming movie, showing this room full of gold bars being "real money" in a virtual reality driven future would be kinda cool.
