I hope the price for panda's not coming down, waiting for this coin to go to the moon

Didn't check the actual pictures, might be a white spot on coin, hard to tell. Knew there were a few people interested in getting one so posted as soon as I saw it.

Still amazes me that the coin grading companies will give a coin a 69/70 when it has spots!

Probably developed spots once graded and slabbed (doubt it was 'conserved' as well).

The NGC number starts with 3, so chances are it's conserved...

Conservation doesn't always remove spots which were already on the coin in the first place.

Spots aren't a grading issue, so they don't count against the grade.

I'm auctioning one of these off: http://www.ebay.com/itm/130617553437#ht_483wt_1289

It will most likely end at $740 or so, and with eBay fees of $66 that means I could sell it for $700 with the cost of Express Mail shipping already included in the price.

Also, for what it's worth, Xu Hong is more like the mouth piece for the Shanghai coin market than a gigantic dealer. He goes around to other dealer tables and takes pictures of their coins and then marks them up on eBay so he can make a very decent spread. If you've been a customer of his for long you might have bought an item from him and he'll say "Sorry, out of inventory". That most likely means he went to the dealer whose coin it actually was and they sold the coin earlier. He's a great guy though. But don't believe that when buying coins from him you're buying at Shanghai market prices. The spread he makes varies, but I've found that most of his stuff is 30% or more overpriced over fair market value.

    Interesting information, thanks.

Also saw that in your auction the NGC cert number starts with a "2" and still has NCS?

Does that mean the commonly assumed idea that only coins with a "3" were NCS is wrong?

I wasn't aware of that rule of thumb. I keep my coins sorted by whether they were conserved or not (taking the seller's word if I bought it graded, or sorting it based on my submissions). I know I did not submit that coin personally and I believe I bought it in the spring of 2011 so I'm just taking the previous seller's word.

Also, and this sounds weird, but coins that have been conserved looks a certain way vs. non-conserved coins. Don't get me wrong, I would not list a coin as being conserved if I simply saw that it "looked" conserved, but the 1996 proof coin looks just like silver proof Unicorn and silver proof Panda coins I've personally sent off to be conserved.

And for what it's worth, NCS cannot remove or prevent white spots from appearing. I don't care in the least about whether or not a coin has white spots (and neither do my Chinese customers) but I am aware many people are. That's why I revised the auctions of the silver proof coins to specify if a coin had white spots, was hazed, or was toned.

I would like to have a positive relationship with him.

Hopefully 25Grizzlies will have a better time with him than I do.

adamcollin42, if you ever come to Shanghai, it would be a pleasure to meet you.

    Thanks.

Yeah, I'd love to meet some fellow Panda collectors. I've tried to fit in going to some shows around my school schedule (sophomore in university). I wanted to go to the Chicago ANA show in summer of 2011 but that was the first week my school started back.

Yennus, do you buy many coins in the Shanghai market?
