@mmm....shiney! You have a fighting chance of a win, your filly has shown much improvement and won a recent trail in exceptional time the last 600 was a very respectable performance. @SilverBags thanks for the info on the competition. Lyrical Girl's run at the Sunshine Coast was disappointing. The trainer reported that she was not settled in the barriers, that she was on the back foot when they jumped and didn't settle in a position in the running where they had planned and that she wanted to overrace. Consequently she never got into a rhythm. He said that the pace was slow up front which didn't suit her either as she was worked up. Watching the race after the field had settled I thought she had sweated up quite badly too. You probably haven't seen the vision of her jump out at eagle farm on the dirt. That was more impressive than her trial. I'll see if I can send you the vision for that via PM.
Your little filly has been giving you a bit of fun lately, 4 wins in a row. Hope you still own shares in her.
3 in a row. Next run this Saturday at Doomben. Is well up to the task at that grade, hopefully we'll get better than evens.
Raced on a slow 6 and time was just under 1 second outside of the track record, new class record. https://www.racingqueensland.com.au...dar/thoroughbred/meeting/doom/20201031/race/3 Lol at the race caller: "She just pings, she leads, she travels, she runs and she burst into another gear there opened up and she has won by a big space."
5 lengths with a 4kg penalty over 2nd? Surely a step up in class is on the cards? On a soft track also...... this is a fast pace.
Yep, very impressive. She’ll head to the paddock, the trainer has an eye to the MM Carnival in January, then there’s the Bris Winter Carnival in 2021. If she measures up I’d like to see her race in Melbourne or Sydney. Maybe she could try climbing a certain famous mountain at Royal Randwick? Now I’m getting ahead of myself
We have shares in "All that Sass"....another mirunner's horse. A 2nd and a 3rd from her first 2 races and then they brought her to the Millions on the GC where she came in 3rd last. They have her back in Sydney and she is nominated for a 1400 something in Newcastle 6th / 7th of Feb. I wish I was telling you all this from the dizzy heights of racing success but its cost me far more that its worth so far...
Yeh, my objective was just to get a winner’s photo to hang on the wall. I didn’t care what class. There’s an old saying in horse racing: “Keep yourself in the best of class and your horse in the worst.”
I was late getting to the pub on MM day and missed Backing Lyrical Girl... Lucky as she ran third at a short price. I had one of the best punting days in years. Where is she headed next I'd like to follow her.
Unsure at the moment, she’s headed off to a spell as there’s something wrong with her that they haven’t been able to pinpoint. Vets have been looking at her this week and we should get a report back tomorrow or Friday.
So, I'm curious shiney, has this been a good investment? Is it something you would recommend? Not personally into horses honestly, but I am curious at these types of investments.
Nope. The title of the thread is a bit misleading, I can't imagine any owner would think owning a racehorse is a good investment. It's a hobby. I like horses, horse racing, betting and getting dressed up and going to the track. So owning a horse was just an extension of that. Mind you, we're not really owners, we have a small stake in a horse that is managed on our behalf. We get regular updates but we're not treated like owners by the syndicate managers or the training staff. We're there to pay the bills and in return they feed us some nice info and photos when it suits them and when they're obligated by law. My horse is above average, but I'm not even sure if she'll make it back to the track. She's won about $80 000. She's a 4 yo mare which has had a handful of starts and shown some great potential. She's still in the learning phase and it was the trainer's intention to step her up in class this preparation and make a name for her. Sadly, that hasn't worked out. She cost $250 000 as a yearling and costs $15 000/month to keep which includes all training and management fees, vet bills and her retirement welfare plan. There were 1000 shares issued in her of which I bought 1 at $250 with an ongoing monthly cost of $15/share. I think I've received about $69 in prize money back. Lol. Edit to add: just got an email saying I'm due another $4.95!! How many Sats does that get?
Horse 'ownership' sounds like good fun! I've never owned a horse but did have a share (1/6th I think) in a dog over a decade ago. It was looking promising after a few good outings & I won good coin on one occasion. Then we received the news that it died of an epileptic fit & that was that!
