I've just put my first trade on the relevant thread and now would like to ask about my next trade (hopefully). I have a full set of 12x1oz proofs of the first lunar series (1999-2010). Each coin is in its original case with COA, even the original outer cardboard boxes are in good nick. One doesn't see full sets too often and individual coins tend to vary in price according to the year so my question is what is a current market value for this set? My intention is to trade for bullion. Any thoughts appreciated. Cheers, Mark.
Your not going to know market value unless you auction this set off. Its hard to say what others will pay. But there is a bit of numismatic value there. Slam
Yeah Slam, you see the odd single but not full sets. Plus the singles vary, people go mad for the dragon for some reason while the rooster seems to be relatively unloved. I might have to put it up on ebay with a reasonable reserve and see what happens. I'm happy to see what response I get here in the first instance though. Mark.
You'd probably do better to break it up and sell each as an individual lot. Below are the general selling values 1999 Rabbit $120 2000 Dragon $180 - the pick of the set, could go for $200 who knows. 2001 Snake $120 2002 Horse $150 - become quite desirable it seems 2003 Goat $100 2004 Monkey $100 2005 Rooster $100 2006 Dog $100 2007 Pig $70 2008 Rat $120 2009 Ox $120 2010 Tiger $120 - 2 sold on ebay in the last week, one for $80 one for $140 ! So add that lot up to see what you have
Geez projack, you've just made my day. Presumably that'd be a retail price, would anyone be interested in them at, say, $1200. That would be 40oz bullion@$30 per oz. Cheers, Mark.
You've got a full proof set and you want to price it at spot? Shouldn't last long then... /me slaps himself for misreading..
Thanks Matthew and Forge. The idea of splitting is tempting but I'm inclined to offer here on the trade thread first. If I got 40oz silver bullion I'd be happy and the other side of the trade would likely be happy too. I picked them up at a pretty good price so leaving a bit on the table would not be a crime. Thanks again, Mark.
Sorry adrenalin but it went not more than hour ago. Thanks to all for the information provided. Cheers, Mark.
He was asking for 40 oz ( so less than Projacks valuation of his set) and than he gets an offer of 1kg. some hard bargaining here
adrenalin, I do appreciate the offer. If the set hadn't been snapped up so soon I'd have seriously considered it. I picked the coins up at a public auction so my main aim has been to flip them and turn any gain into bullion. I have some more items which I'll trade in due course but moving the lunars certainly is a great start. Cheers, Mark
Yeah no worries Mark, No hard feelings. Just shoot me a PM or email if you have anymore lunars you want sell or swap.
PandaAmerica has the set for $895 US. http://www.pandaamerica.com/details.asp?item=9351&grp=1&categ=19 I have had my eyes on that for awhile, well, yes, kind of expensive but damn, I want it
