One of the best ways to find a job on your own is by volunteering for the SES or the RFS. Both organisations are full of blue collar volunteers that have trade backgrounds which assists them with their volunteer work. Great place to network if your currently unemployed with a trade. But that would require initiative
Well how come i have applied for 20 jobs last week (only 3 required for Centrelink payments) with 10 yrs experience in one industry as a very competent worker plus previous experience in two other industries with trade qualifications and out of all that resume sending I've had about 4 interveiws.......Job agency told me last week there are ALOT of unemployed people at the moment... Just got a msg from an old work mate that i used as a reference......he got a phone call today with 100 questions asking about me.....All he gave was positive answers.....We'll wait and see!
much more then 300! Look at Alan Joyce having a cry because the government is not giving them money. Oh and big cry about not giving staff pay rises and bonuses any more. Why were they getting it in the first place! So based on us living in a bizzaro world our dollar should go up in this news...
NIL sympathy for QANTAS maintenance workers etc. More sympathy for the cabin crews/pilots etc , work crazy hours and conditions. I get the impression that many in OZ would be quite happy to see QANTAS fail. They can get ready for MUCH higher fares if they do. OC
Why sympathy? are they forced to be there against their own will? If Qantas fail because they are not profitable then yes they should fail like every other business, there should be no special rule. And I'm very happy for flights to go UP in price, won't bother me one bit. Heck if people start flying less it just means they will have less high energy radiation exposure.
Leo, Why sympathy? are they forced to be there against their own will? No, it is part of an agreed contract of employment I presume. Does not make it any less onerous. especially for the hosties. If Qantas fail because they are not profitable then yes they should fail like every other business, there should be no special rule. Of course! And I'm very happy for flights to go UP in price, wont bother me one bit. Most travelers will see a US ticket go from $1500 to $2500 almost overnight if the QANTAS capacity disappears. It is ONLY competition that keeps them low as it is, not airline generosity. OC
And if the prices goes up that much you can be sure some other company will fill the gap and maybe charge $2000. That's how the market works. How often are people flying to the US were it will have a major impact on the consumer... And if it does have a big impact then maybe don't fly so much? because you clearly can't afford it.
Yes, i know about 'supply and demand', and currently the supply (of seats) is the greater. Just using the Pacific as a hypothetical example:- The loss of all those QANTAS seats will, maybe, reverse that situation, but any airline that replaces those seats with another 'brand' or extra services is just duplicating what we have now. If DELTA or VIRGIN do that, then they will be cutting each others throats. JMO OC
off topic but why don't you use the quote button? It's much quicker and easier than typing out poster's responses in order to quote them. If you're not computer savvy, I'm happy to walk you through it.
My usual method is Highlight, Copy, Paste. Interline answers. Been doing it that way for years. But thanks for the offer. OC
If Qantas folds (long way from it at the moment) then there will be plenty of airlines lining up to service US routes. Thus I don't think major routes would significantly increase in price, rather the less profitable routes (i.e., regional services) would become more expensive.
haha and here we go, Virgin suffers from a loss too. So if the government gives anything to Qantas they will have to do the same for Virgin. Hope they tell them both to F@#K OFF!! http://finance.ninemsn.com.au/newsbusiness/aap/8807018/virgin-suffers-83-7m-first-half-loss
