Public Announcement from SGB

SGB recently commissioned SBA to make our 'Ra' proof coins for us, however some Proofs developed spotting only days after receiving them and were not of the quality we would expect.
Some were fine however a lot have been sent back to the mint to be fixed or replaced, they are currently working on them right now, basically inspecting and fixing them one by one.
We expect to have them back shortly, we will keep you updated here in this thread.

We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused those who purchased the 'Ra' proof, we did not want to send out an inferior product, so they have been sent back.

If I may ask... may I know how the fix is done on the returned spotted coins? I am really interested to know how spots get onto silver coins and how collectors like us can fix it, possibly on our own. And once fixes are made will the spots grow again?

My apologies if this is not appropriate to post here.

 

Mint treats them different to someone at home, they have a special cleaner thingy. It has been covered several times here at silverstackers a search would be your best option.

I have not sent mine back yet, one has only a tiny spot, the other has a few. is it too late?

UPDATE.
About half of what was sent back to SBA has been returned to us, milk spot free.
They are working quite hard at getting the finish we require, which has pushed them to new levels of frustration!!! The rest are not far off.

Were they totally reminted or treated in some way?

 

Some where treated, with sonic cleaner, what didnt come good are being reminted and re - engraved.
Some proof finished blanks have been imported to get the job done.
They are struggling to get the finish we want.
SBA have been great tho, while its taking some time they are bending over backwards to make it all good.

 

Guys, those that bought thru Maggie - we sent them back just as she passed over.
We still were not happy with them.
