good morning all. am relatively new to this site and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the difference between a 'normal' uncirculated perth mint kookaburra coin and a proof coin and a reverse proof coin???? am about to purchase back years of the kookaburras from a dealer in america who has reverse proof coins and would appreciate knowing the difference. and wether or not they are less or more valuable than regular uncirculated coins. have searched through the forums but cant find an answer. cheers felix
Ditto. That's just how good the Perth Mint bullion coins are - the regular specimen/bullion issue is a "reverse proof". That's just shonky marketing to sell them as such.
thanks for those answers, ok.......so if its just regular bullion it shouldnt attract gst when it comes in? as opposed to proof coins?......(which apparently do attract gst) as long as i keep the order to under $1000 including postage. or can i bring in a value of over $1000 .......say, $4000 worth if its just bullion without attracting gst? sorry to bring up the gst question again but am still unclear on whether the gst on orders of over $1000 applies to regular uncirculated silver kooks (bullion) or proofs.
It should not apply - do a search though, there is a specific three letter harmonization code that the shipper can out on the parcel to aid with avoiding GST. Make sure they include an accurate invoice on the outside of the package to help Customs, and that they DON'T use the term "reverse proof" - needs to say just silver, or bullion, and the purity on the invoice would help too.
thanks for all the info i've been dealing with talisman coins in the u.s. who have been really helpful. they have rung me in australia twice today to discuss the order. will let you know how delivery goes. cheers felix
I've seen deals on Perth Mint coins in the US that are worth the hassle to import them back... just haven't bothered before.
I bought carded Koalas and they attracted the GST. I consider them a bullion coin but I'm thinking the carded issue must be a numismatic purchase? Confused.
yeah, i know it sounds crazy to buy aussie coins from the u.s. but they had what i wanted at a reasonable price including shipping . and yeah i looked around in oz but couldnt come up with what i wanted. they may be out there but i couldnt find them. ie am still looking for a roll of 20 1oz silver kooks for the year 1998 and 2008 but cant find them anywhere here. so still looking .....
gee thanks silverbay. seeing them together in a photo is great. picture says a thousand .......... very helpful
You don't have to offer explanations, son... many of us here are doing the same ! You do your own 'due diligence' and the final say is your own only... good luck to you.
If you find some 2008 in the US and have ordered what you want, please pm me. I would like to get some of them for future trading.
I am thinking of putting together a set of 1 oz proof Kooks (god help me) My research tells me they were issued from 1990 -2005. Already have from 1990 ,91,93, Anyone also working on a set of these? OR has some of the years I am missing ..lets face it I am missing a few ..please PM me with offers. Must be in mint cond and have their smicky little leather wallets and COA's
Your set will always be incomplete unless you manage to score a 2001 $200 mule. Hope you have deep pockets. Saw one a couple of years ago with an asking price of $7000 from M R Roberts.
Oh ,Steve . You have just rained on my parade Anyhoo..I will leave the hardest till last..if you get any of the others, send them my way, mate
Not rained on your parade; just saving you a lot of money and time. This is coming from a bunny who tried to build an entire collection of Kookaburra Hummers. I have since disposed of most of those Hummers. However at the peak of my powers I had a collection of 16 of those toe-crushers.
Ok ..I hear you on the futility of trying to get a set together..but I like the challenge. Do you happen to have a pic or link of the 2001 mule? Haven't been able to find it yet
