Saw the Victorian version last week, and it really is the business.

Wow, I thought this was something from the U.S. until I saw the Queensland Police insignia on the side.

Here are the NSW ones, a fair bit different from the real rescue guys huh?

Note that they can fire weapons through the slots below the windows in the back. Yeah that's exactly what we need!

You should see the shit they would have bought if the gun laws hadn't gone through

Edit: thank goodness the canberra dudes didn't have this level of stuff when they hit the neighbour the other week. Sure they had all the sensible body armour and stuff, but not the military-grade vehicles.

Dude, they've got battle camouflaged automatic weapons, sidearms, various projectile grenades and a shotgun behind the back with extra ammunition on the wrist. Slots to fire weapons from within the vehicle that can contain up 10 people firing weapons. Am missing something?????

Don't quote me but I am pretty sure they have machine guns ready to be mounted to those vehicle turrets.

What else were they ordering? Rocket launchers?

Don't worry that's what the military are there for.

It's all ok now, they're just following orders. Following orders is the safest thing for everyone because it always works out for the best, doesn't it? ALWAYS, got a problem with that?

This stuff is routine, it's the norm and to be expected. No one can creditably argue the contrary.

Creepy. Does anyone else think they look like terrorists?

EDIT: love some of the comments below. Wonder why they didn't censor them.

But Daniel Whelan's comment was censored. Also couldn't find the comment David was referring to.

Are those Rescue Guns they are carrying? Do they use those rescue bullets?

Seems like the main use would be to carry out government wishes in case there's ever mass protests etc. This is a tool for attacking large numbers of people. I can't imagine it being deployed in a "port arthur" situation, like one commenter says. I can imagine it being deployed against peaceful protestors. I've seen police use force against normal people for political reasons. This just looks like an aid to that. It's a pretty bad look, guys.

Well the USA has been progressing towards a police state since WW2, however things really picked up pace there after September 2001.

And seems to have hit the exponential phase of police growth around the time of the GFC.

So i would say 5-6 years from then till now with Australian purchase of military gear for police is too quick for me.

Actually I prefer a timeframe of never.

The shotgun is for breaching (taking hinges of doors) they have 9 bangers which are non lethal. The M4's being 5.56 mm are a bit of overkill for an urban environment in the role they use them for, they are crammed up for the green field role which they need to be as a black weapon really stands out. The reason for the armoured vehicle is so they can drive right up to the objective without exposing themselves to fire. They can also just drive the vehicle right through walls in some cases to gain entry.
Yeah it is pretty heavy duty kit but I I can tell you they would have lots of fun (more fun than Shiney using his knife to cut firewood even).
They are not planning on coming off second best, a big thing which has already come across in people's posts...... The intimidation factor, there is a reason why they are going that angle, it is deliberate. Anyone guess why?

I think the costumes are missing something....

I'm kind of thinking double lightning bolts or something like that... and an ancient indian religious symbol perhaps... maybe as an armband

The "Police Rescue squad" was and always will be Gary Sweet and Sonia Todd pulling someone out of a collapsed building or mangled tanker truck.

Police uniforms have also been made darker to be more intimidating. They were changed a couple of years ago.

States aren't supposed to maintain military forces under the Constitution, but they always find a way to side-step or ignore it.

Honestly, I can see the need for these in some parts of Sydney.

You see the need to dispatch the military police complete with grenades, automatic camouflaged weapons, handguns and an extra shotgun? Rolling up in a tank? With Gun turret? with 10men with firing opening so they can unload their rescue bullets safely from within its confines?

    Full on warfare!

    Which part of Sydney?

First they came for the Christians, then they came for those that also disagree, next... Ok I'll wait... go see who's at the door.
