Hi all, looking for more info and approx. value for a PM trial strike coin. These don't pop up very often, with very few pics and info online too. I've come across a uniface Perth Mint trial strike coin for a 1993 10oz gold kangaroo that was struck on aluminium (metal not 100% confirmed). The story attached to the coin was that it somehow made it out of the Mint before it was destined to be destroyed. I've seen one article online that indicates uniface trial strikes may have also been used as a promotional tool at events. Trial strikes for general circulating currency can sometimes go for a pretty penny, but other than I know very little about them. Feel free to DM or discuss openly. I may even start an EOI or convince the owner for an auction if there's lots of interest. Cheers
Thanks ChipMunk. I did see this article but not the second one you posted, so that was handy! While the "escaped the Mint" story sounds nice, its seems much more likely now that it was a promotional tool. It's still a cool piece though, but seeming to be one of little monetary value. Cheers again for taking the time out to have a look into it
Just a thought, the articles mention silver plated copper or gold plated copper for their advertising pieces. But this is a non-plated aluminium round for a gold 10oz coin. If it was for advertising, would they not have plated it?
