I'm a year of the rabbit, I'm a little unhappy with the high prices, I wanted one as a good luck charm.

Agreed, last year a friend showed me her kilo bullion Dragon and I literally mistook if for a 10 oz Dragon. The caveat is that prior to the moment I was shown the kilo Dragon by my friend, I hadn't seen or held a 10 oz or kilo coin for many months. Still, if someone who has as much experience as JLiz thinks the diameter difference is almost negligible then that has to mean something about that paltry difference.

The problem is not with the diameter of the kilo coins, it is with the diameter of the 10oz coins which should be thicker rather than wider. The kilo coin got the dimensions right and is aesthetically pleasing. The 10 oz is just too thin and is more like a plate than a coin.

    True Pete.

    The 10oz Lunar is only 7.4mm thick. (overall dimensions 100.6mm x 7.4mm)

    10oz Koala and Kookaburra 8.7mm thick (overall dimensions 75.6mm x 8.7mm)

Although the 10oz Lunar is thinner, it's the same diameter as the Kilo Lunar and imo provides a very nice image of the reverse (larger).

I like the uniqueness of the 10oz Lunar, you can use them as a frisbees as they cut the air better than throwing those discus like 10oz Koala's and Kooks. :D

    Cheers

I'm not sure which coins your referring to but my lunar snake is definately not the same diameter as my other lunar kilos...it would be cool if they were though.
I read somewhere about half kilo coins but I've never seen one, I think that could be a really good size.

Now that I own a few kilos though I think I'm a 10iz (maybe 5) man. Just the right size for handling and showing off the subject.

They sure do quote the mintage of the kilo coins:

    Look on Page 2:

The Lunar 10oz coins have a diameter of 85.60 mm, they are not the same as the kilo diameter of 100.6 mm

I'm not really sure what you are saying here, Perth mint have not declared a final mintage for the kilo coins , if you look in the 1st column it says unlimited mintage the other column says sales to date. Which means until they declare the mintage they can mint any lunar 2 kilo coin until 2019.
I hope that clarifies things for you.

Lunar kilo diameter is 100.60, thickness of 14.60
    10 oz diameter 85.60 thickness of 6.60

    SI
10 oz Lunar is the same as the Kooks

Correct, but it does show how many they have minted, and I havent seen that number go up. Is there any evidence they have actually minted a older coin out of date?

No but they can mint more anytime they wish, for example Silber corner one of the big German dealers says we want 500 kilo mice 300 ox 800 dragons etc.Perth mint will mint them. The policy is once Perth mint declare a mintage that's it finito until then it is not.

I did approach PM distributor for the tiger for remint. However, PM does not give them the minimum quantity to remint.

I prepare to buy 30 KG because unable to find a good price for the tiger at that moment.

I think PM need big order to remint.

    Nice pics!

Man, I need to get me an S2 Lunar kilo one of these days..

They're all nice, but leaning towards a Snake or Tiger, if excellent condition at a fair price. Also curious what the Monkey will be like.

Silly question: So why was there an overlap of S1 & S2? Why didn't PM just wait til S1 was over?

There might be an available one floating around here somewhere.. ;)

Thanks for bumping the thread and reminding me of this. It's a really amazing Lunar collection. Well worth the effort when I see the pics of them all together.

I was never able to get the kilo Mouse or Ox. :( I have now passed on that responsibility and my Lunar kilos to another Sydney collector. If he can get them all then it will be quite an accomplishment. To see all those kilos together at the completion of the series would be spectacular.

I was able to get all the 1oz Series 2 coins only.

Yeah, going back in time for stuff like this can be tough. Have to do a lot of hunting sometimes, maybe make some connections, and in some cases, be prepared to pay up. But can be done if one *really* wants it bad enough, and has the funds to do so.

For the kilo collection, you can always start fresh with S3..

keke. I will retake the photo. Bought the tiger quite a while from ss member here BUT lazy in photo taking.

4 more years to complete. Hope the spot will not up a lot 4 years down the road.

Please have a look of my china scallop NGC lunar. I have traded the NGC PF69 dog to PF70. Mostly likely I will trade all PF69 to PF70 if available and at reasonable price. China scallop series 2 another one year to go and complete
