Hi folks, About 9-10 years ago, I found this men's bracelet on a Northbridge footpath. I took it into the establishment whose threshold it was found on, but no-one came to claim it. It was returned to me. I am wondering what the silver-coloured component is made of. Unlikely to be silver, as it has not discoloured over the last decade. Perhaps stainless steel? Has anyone any idea? The end pieces are 18Kt gold, as suggested by the microscopic '750' stamp on the right finial. I don't wear it, but it has always proven to be a bit of a puzzle for me.
If the end peices are indeed gold then it would make sense that it would be silver. You wouldn't attach golds end to anything that isnt a precious metal. Before reading your comments I first thought it was a torc.
if I had to bet, I would say white gold. that is what I would expect if the ends are marked 18ct. Pretty easy to find out. have a great arvo gazza
Yes, all these thoughts (with the exception, perhaps, for Gallium ;-) ) have crossed my mind also. However I can't be sure. I'm guessing I should take to a jeweller to test, right? I was kinda hoping someone might just say "Oh! I have one of them! It':s cheapass wire / sterling silver / platinum / [insert alloy here]..."
Take it somewhere where they will do an XRF test, not an acid test - you don't want to ruin it if it's Tiffany. Helps if we knew what state you were in.
I mentioned in my first post that I found it in Northbridge - which is a suburb of Perth. Thanks for the advice re: XRF versus acid testing.
Is that Phillipe Carriol? Any south East asian man/women know this...they are famous for their wire thingie.
Definitely a very similar treatment, if Charriol photos are anything to go by (stainless + 18kt gold).
Dont think it worth much. Could be plated. Pm me I will tell you who have XRF. TED was tes Ted by XRF. I guess no one really reading the thread. Ted thread.
Eureka - I was addressing the part of ChipMunk's post where he told me to PM him as to where it can be tested. In my response, I meant I already have info regarding where i can have it XRF tested - not that I had received info as to what its made of.
I could be wrong...i think PC use white gold...hence the popularity in south east asia. Is there any maker stamp? You coild hit the jackpot! Altough PC does get copied a lot. To the XRF!
Sorry z, you've pricked my interest with this piece and am keen to find out what you find out about it. From your pic it looks a well made piece whatever the metal. Good luck, hope its platinum/gold.
It looks like oxide silver finish If it has .750 / 18 ct ends then you would presume it to be silver or white gold Do a test on it that's easy
