    Hello Folks

Its been a long time since I posted but I didn't know where else to turn to ask for advice

My moron of a father rang me late last night saying he has a friend in the Philippines that is going to sell him gold bars - he told me that they can't sell it blah blah and need an intermediary to sell the gold bars to the open market - my father being the gullible moron that he is thinks its a great deal - they only want 30k for 1kg gold

He then sent me 2 pics of the bars and when I saw them I laughed at him on the phone and said they were fake as F*$k - he wouldn't believe me and said the guy was an old friend and why would he cheat me blah blah - he also said that the guy was willing to let my father take the gold to an assayer in Malaysia before he had to give him any money - as soon as I herard all this red flags just went off in my head - Its all BS so I proceeded to google "sumatra gold bar scam" - I could not find much thou and the only place that listed anything was www.tseatc.com

My question is - are there any sites that any of you know of that I can fwd to my father to prove to him that they are fakes..

    thank you in advance

    Blip

They look like chocolate wrapped in fake gold foil.

There are only about 1 million phillipino miners that manage to sell gold outside of the Phillippines. I watched a documentary on that subject the other day. The only reason the miners don't sell to the government is because of a new tax.

And make no mistake, all gold mined in the Philippines is required by law to be sold to the government. So, your Father would likely be violating Philippino law and the the government could easily confiscate the gold from your Father.

If he has one functioning brain cell he would not touch that deal.

If they are real, then I'm severely colour blind...

I've seen chocolate bars which look closer to gold than those... sorry mate! :D

If its from an old and trusted friend, I'll let him send me the item first. I'll assay it, sell it and send him the profits later.

Not sure if it's illegal to send billions out from phillipines, but I suppose it isn't illegal to receive billions in Australia or Malaysia.

The bars look like they've been spray-painted with a metallic gold paint.

The bar in picture 2 would weight about 12-15kg if it were real. Besides, serial numbers are stamped or laser engraved into bars - not cast into the side.

    Also,

This is dead correct. All gold in the Philippines is required by law to be sold to their central bank - he wouldn't be able to export it anyway even if it was legit, WHICH IT IS NOT.

Cannot emphasise enough how fake that is. It's even the wrong shape - crude mined gold would be in loaf ingots, not something that looks like a chopped up floorboard or 75mm steel.

hey thanks for all that guys

the first time I looked at the pics I already knew they were fake but logical and well observed proof like yours GP is what I need to tell my stupid father that it is FAKE as HELL...

It's so weird for a son to be teaching his father about things - when I was young I used to look up to him for his business acumen but now I just think what a freakin moron... how the hell did he ever make the kind of money he made in the past?? It just boils down to luck and timing.

The Burma bar in the scales is clearly a very poor replica of the bar from the bottom.
