This has been discussed in another part of this site but thought it needed greater exposure.

As of April 8th, the sale of Platinum Post satchels will cease.

The other satchel post systems will continue eg express post but price rise to $10.55 for 500gm

Instead of Platinum Post Express satchels, currently $13.70 for up to 500gm and $18.90 for up to 3kg, Australia Post will introduce a new "Courier Post" system.

Prices for the the new Courier Post will be $34.95 for up to 3kg.

From Australia Post about the new Courier Post: "We have introduced Courier Post, a new product for when you require urgent same day delivery. Courier Post will be available from metropolitan to metropolitan areas within the same state for parcels lodged by 2pm.

Courier Post will only be available for medium sized satchels and for assessed parcels up to 22kg. Courier Post will not be available for small or large satchels."

Registered parcel post will also cease on 8th April. From Australia Post again: "Registered Post for domestic parcels included Signature on Delivery and the optional feature of Extra Cover. This service will be withdrawn from 8 April 2013. However, Registered Post products and services will still be available for standard letters."

Perhaps its because they were paying out to much cash due to dodgy posties

So what will the going price be for any pre-paid satchels on here?

    3kg Plat.ex- $25?

    500g Plat.ex- $20?

Is it worth stocking up on plat? Will there be a buyers market? Would the small profit be worth while?

Now we will have a slower and less secure parcel system if you are sending interstate.

With Platinum Express gone and the new $35 Courier only available for metro to metro in the same state, you will need to use Express Post satchels which are less secure and slower delivery times than Plat Express.

    Not good news at all.

Courier Post is for same day delivery it looks like .. not next day delivery. Express Post with signature would appear to be the next best, but there is a base price plus a certain amount per zone that you want to send to. Seems like it's not going to be able to be as easy as saying 500g Plat Exp and add an amount. Instead you have to work out where the package is starting from and where it goes to.

I went out today and cleared out my local PO of Plat Exp bags. 3 x 500g and 1 x 3kg was all that was there. Will now be visiting a few others tomorrow looking for more!

^ Express Post does not have the same next day guarantee network of the Platinum Express.

I pratically did the same as Phil, and now just realised I WOULD never use that much of postage...I think I was a bit too quick on the trigger. :D

Oh well...will bring some to the Melb Meet on Sunday! :D

For those who have a centre nearby, try these guys, I've sent larger items that Au$post wouldn't send.
