Hey Stackers, I've recently purchased some sovereigns & 1/10oz gold coins which all have come in the coin holders not acrylic airtight capsules. My question to you all is - Which type of storage/protective cover is better Is it better to leave in said covers or place in airtight? Thanks for your feedback in advance Ed
I have kept in both over many years. I believe PVC to be corrosive so when buying replacements avoid the cheap brands & check for pvc. Some Morgan's/peace dollars I had in old plastic flips developed a rainbow colour which looked nice but maby not good for the coin. Flips are more compact & store better. I read somewhere that capsules from mints have a gas inside but can't remember where so no source. Nitrogen gas if I remember right. Never open a coin capsule unless you have to.
SAFLIP's Polyethylene Terephthalate, which I believe is aka Mylar. You can heat seal them, and it's what the museums use! Or so the packaging claims haha. Pics to follow, just gotta compress before I can upload

I'd personally go airtight capsules purely because I'd want to take them out of the sleeves and touch them! I'm like a moth to the flame
