This was from my very first purchase of silver, it's a 1oz Canadian Maple Leaf 25th anniversary coin from ProvidentMetals.com. I'm a little bummed out to see the edges so chipped up all around the coin on this side. Is this an acceptable condition for an undgraded new coin? Or am I just too much of a perfectionist? I bought a bunch of other silver coins from them, and although none of them are perfect, they're not this bad. Should I contact them about this or just let it go? This is the very first time I took the coin out of the plastic cover, just to take these pics:
That is standard for a bullion Maple. It's been minted to bullion standards, not numismatic standards.
But if you are talking a bullion perth mint kook or a lunar coin, then you can expect 'numi' like quality, hence, you get what you pay for!!
Yes I would say that's normal. It's a bullion round, meaning you are pretty much getting it simply for the silver value, and recognition of where it came from. I've gotten some pretty beat up bullion rounds from JM too. But I mean I paid just over spot, so I mean I didn't buy them for numismatic value, and didn't pay the numismatic price either sooooo... Kinda comes with the turf when you buy Bullion for basically silver value. If you bought graded, and paid for graded, then this would be COMPLETELY unacceptable!!
Bullion - after it is struck it falls into a pile.. contact, bag marks occur as the quality control is not at a level where business strikes are treated as a collectable. Soon it will be a milky-bullion but don't worry cause its $5 (the selling point always spelt out when comparing the maple to other world coins and bullion)
I initially thought the small price premium of new uncirculated coin would have a better quality than a silver round with a smaller price premium. I bought a bunch of various different rounds in the same order, and they came in better condition than this coin. Thanks guys, I'll lower my standard a tad so I don't get disappointed for future orders.
