Great read Comeaux!! Do you know if NCG for sure electronically check submitted coins for metal content?
Thanks 25grizzlies ! Yes NGC does metallurgical analysis but that is a separate service of $75. A person may say "WTF $75 for a metallurgical analysis???" but then again, this would be a small fee on a high value coin. My coin in question was not high value so I opted out of having it done. We must also remember that the latest "super counterfeits" were even correct in their metallurgical composition. The counterfeiters realized that for $35 of silver they could replicate a coin worth a $1,000 or more I'm not saying this is the case with java's coin just conveying the "state of affairs" we are faced with nowadays. Not just pandas but all high value coins in general. If you go to NGC or PCGS sites they are listing on a daily basis some new "counterfeit alert" and it is predominately old/rare US coins. Javacoffee like I said bro, I completely understand your frustration and I made SEVERAL calls to NGC before relenting that I had to accept what I was refusing to want to accept because it's bullsh*t. Also man I hate to be a "turd in the punchbowl" but are you absolutely 100% sure of the dealer that you had "submit" for you? I'm not accusing anyone of anything just want to make sure you know the guy well. The phenomenal increase in demand and value of Modern Chinese Coins in general has people doing crazy things that they would ordinarily have not done in the past. The most logical scenario is that your dealer is honest and your coin is 100% authentic. Maybe it is just an uncharacteristic strike or something that is throwing NGC off. I know how pissed you must be because I was fired up over a common panda, not a 2000 panda. Well good luck my man and hopefully you can get PCGS to give you some positive feedback on your coin.
It's not mint sealed, I admit don't know enough about coloured '00's, that's assuming that they even exist. looks legit original issue but who knows what's been done to it since. Big no from me.
From what I know, the color was added in Germany. This one isn't aging well. The underlying coin is probably real. Best wishes, Peter Anthony http://www.pandacollector.com
Is this a counterfeit Panda 150707654317 http://www.ebay.de/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&&item=150707654317&ssPageName=ADME:B:BCA:ES:1465 based on the plastic pouch, general appearance and the eye of the panda in the background which looks a bit off I think it is.... I have my doubts about some of his listings as well.
The color is off, the fur is off, there should not be a capsule inside OMP for 2010 etc Yeah steer clear
I am sure the panda experts get tired of looking at these for us, but we really appreciate it! Is this a real panda..price looks great..seller has magnitude of sales with 100% positive feed back..but the Panda looks terrible. Is it just a bad pic or a fake panda..thanks in advance. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHINA-1989-...821?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2eb9643165
Looks a bit suss, the 1989 1oz expo panda looks like this. So I have no idea wtf that coin is. Don't think it's even a Panda. Apparently it's a 5oz Panda. But the eBay listing says 1oz so it's not only completely suss, it's completely wrong!
The coin in the eBay listing uses simplified Chinese though, something that Hong Kong coins pre-1997 would and should not be doing.
Got what I believe are my first two fake pandas. Ebay seller (john112533029) seemed honestly unaware and offered a refund upon receiving them back. Admitted to not being familiar with pandas, so I would avoid buying from again. Fur is off; details are off; date and yuan marks are off; can't even see the weight/purity stamp; weighs only 27 grams in capsule.
Looks pretty rough Derrick, I'm glad he was an honourable seller... shame to see haven't seen a listed commemorative coin counterefit til now.
I was disappointed to say the least, but yes, at least he didn't give me a hard time about wanting to send them back for a refund. He said he picked these up at a coin show in Florida a couple years back from a dealer he sees there. Said neither of them deal much in pandas, so I guess they wouldn't know what to look for in a fake. Oh well. No more buying pandas from auctions with crummy photos for me.
coins.with.equity - is using a grading service called NGA - National Guaranteed Authentication? Have never heard if this grading service? Selling allot of Pandas now just scrolling through and saw them! I've been buying just from APMEX just because I am scared of getting scammed or verifying through NGC, etc.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2000-Chi...120831806031?pt=AU_Coins2&hash=item1c22230a4f This clown has about 10 coins listed at the moment. Photos are the same as on page 1 of this thread. Read the listing for a bit of a laugh.... (quote) "Note: Item published a limited number of buyers to more agreeable to get goods to purchase up to 5 per item limit. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-OZ-SILVER...363?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab52052db This was posted at CCF ... pretty hilarious ! A "combo" panda ! 2000 obverse & 2003 reverse with a 20 yuan denomination
