Anyone here have a picture of it or seen the picture of it? Know any other info such as price or mintage that they can share?
Details are embargoed until the release day. The only legitimate information already out is a Currency Act description from 2013; "Abalone Coin - Silver Proof Coin The design on the Abalone (1oz) silver proof coin, consists of a pattern of lines and swirls; and an insert of abalone shell. The coin includes the following inscriptions 'AUSTRALIAN ABALONE SHELL', and the initials of the designer Tom Vaughan (TV).
These look really nice, although this is just from the stock images. If the abalone shell insert is done well, these should be a hit.
Naa, they will be terrible. Just let me buy some first before you start another thread to rival the first sock horse coin
Abalone coin at $110 does nothing for me. Like the 10oz platinum bar at the back of the brochure that came in the mail today, they're auctioning it off RRP $60k - wow.
I have seen it in person, really nicely done, one of the most beautiful coin by Perth mint in recent years.
According to the PM it depends on how well this one goes but for the moment it's just the one off until sales figures decide otherwise
NOT sure why the U.S. customers are blocked from buying Abalone coin? PM does not even mention this anywhere. Luckily, I am not that crazy about the design. Comparing with Palau one, PM one is not as good. Yes, PM one is a lot cheaper.
Hi picturefun, That's an excellent question, I will forward it to our digital marketing department so they can post an answer on our Abalone Shell product page. The reason Downies, Perth Mint and other Australian dealers aren't selling this coin into the US is because any items containing natural shell product are subject to extra export restrictions. Apart from a fee of around $120 there is also a lot of extra US customs paperwork to deal with. We are looking into this issue further, to see if the fee is per coin or per shipment, in which case we may look at doing a bulk shipment for the US and absorb the customs fee. We will notify our US customers if we're able to do this. In the meantime if any US customers are interested in purchasing this coin from us they can contact us at [email protected]. It would be good to get an idea of interest in doing something like this Kind regards, Renee
The always popular Talisman seems to be the only US dealer carrying this coin right now, maybe they are exclusive in the market?
I bought 2 for kicks from Talisman. I figure, heck, my daughter and wife love shells, so at least they'll be happy if these should drop in value. ))) Thanks for the heads up about my favorite coin dealer. hehehe
yeah, it was the uniqueness of the coin that motivated me to get a couple. Also, I found Downies comment yesterday one of interest, where they said they have to charge more because it is a sea-shell. I'm not sure if this is true, but interesting.
