Anyone have the weight of this item? I was given one for xmas but the COA just says 9999 gold without a weight and the perth mint site has no info on them (they sold out and made the page black - thank PM )
I just looked up the Oct Mint bulletin and it says nothing about the weight: "$100 Gold Foiled Banknote in Folding Case - the front of the Australian $100 in this luxurious folding timber case is foiled in 99.99% gold. (Dimensions: 29cm x 20 cm x 18 cm)" taken from Perth Mint October 2010 Bulletin
Will ring them when I get back to work - holiday time is to valuable for such things will post my findings when they come in.
Ok e-mailed a query off about this early Feb - got response an obscene amount of time later (I'd forgotten it actually) response as follows: The $ 100 gold note you mention could certainly have been purchased at the Perth Mint gift shop, but it was not made by us. It is a novelty product containing some gold, but it is not a bullion product. Kind regards not overly helpful Perth mint employee Surely if you sell a product you have some knowledge of what it consists of? my original mail was: I was recently given an Australian $100 gold note that sold at the Perth mint and was hoping to find out more about it as it has no information on the weight etc. Could you please send me a fact sheet or some information on this item.
Cheers Bron - should have PM'd you to begin with but beware being this helpful you are setting youself up for a flood of queries in the future.......I suggest you stop being so helpful.....right after you help me
I'll second the above, I have one of these $100 gold notes, though mine does not state it is Perth Mint. I wonder if mines the same as yours Smooth, is it in a black box (24 carat 99.99% gold in the bottom right corner) with a plastic/crystal covering the actual note? Small black Cert with it too? Got mine as a gift too. Great minds think alike (or not as the case may pan out...)
Thats the one mate - exact same. Mine was bought from the Perth Mint so I figured they would have it's details.
Ah, got mine from a mate in Brissy. A jeweller too oddly enough, so I didn't expect him to give me crap. We'll see what becomes of it... If anything, its a nice display cabinet piece no?
Does look good and makes an interesting conversation piece (puts fiat $100 to shame ) - wish they'd included a fact sheet on its composition/weight with the note though
http://mintissue.ramint.gov.au/mintissue/product.asp?code=9910870 Still doesn't mention any weight Looks a bit different from the one I picked up From memeory (never the best at the best of times ), I got mine for $100 off feebay Thought that was a giggle to swap a paper 100 for a gold 100 lol (maybe someone else was laughing )
The supplier says the approximately gold in the replica note is 0.002 grams or 0.0000643015 ounces. At $1500 an ounce that equals $0.096. At selling price of $249.00, that is a premium of $248.90 or 2489%. They say that the gold foil is too thin to weigh and you wouldn't get any gold if you tried to melt it.
Much appreciated Bron, I'll keep mine firmly in my display cabinet, underneath the JP Morgan Quote 'Gold is money - everything else is credit'. Also considering a large stack of Zimbabwe dollars to go next to it... anyone got any?
