Got a shock when I looked at this. I remembered it wasn't too long ago, these watches cost around $10k.

I used to work near a dealer and walk pass it everyday. I might have bought an entry level nautilus at $10k if I didn't think it is so ugly. :D

Even today, I won't wear this watch, but I guess the ugliness is the reason why it's so expensive. It stands out!

Well, for the size you can pack far more value into a watch than gold. Has a place similar to art I suppose, which can often be tragically ugly for the price.

These were never 10k AUD. Yes they used to be a lot less ( around 20k pre loved) and have gone stupid the last few years. One of the new ugly tiffany blue dial versions just sold for 6M USD. One of 170, for charity of course. Current grey market offers for the new tifiify blue dial are at 1.5M USD.

I am partial to the new 5990 in rose gold but not at 300k USD, not even at RRP. Nice watch though with a true complication movement wise.

High end watches have gone nuts these past two to three years.

I thought anything Tiffanys is for upper middle class segment consumers. Cartier is presumably high-end. I don't understand why tiffany blue would be particularly desirable in the UHNW segment. Who wears that?

Ok Patek is "iconic". But I'd still rather buy a Panerai Radiomir if I'd want a watch.

That Patek model is iconic because of the designer, same guy who designed the Royal Oak and saved AP.

    https://www.timeandwatches.com/p/history-of-patek-philippe-nautilus.html

Cartier is not high end when it comes to watches. Patek is, as is AP, ALS, Vacheron, Richard Mille and Rolex etc...Rolex is not exactly super high end with their movements apart from the newer 9001 used in the Sky Dweller which is a true show of them flexing to the market.

    :)

Yes, naturally meant Tiffany vs. Cartier in jewellery - as the Patek Nautilus is co-branded with Tiffany logo and signature color. But I suppose it makes sense as Tiffany is Patek's oldest retailer in the USA. Notably LVMH sealed the deal on purchasing Tiffany beginning of this year. Patek goes to them next?

What's usually surprises many is the consolidated ownership of watch brands.

There's a big market from asia and the Patek name is short and simple enough. just like Rolex.

A.Lange & Sohne, how to say it? :D
