Ok you got me, so what is it about Rand that has you putting her in the same sentence as two of the biggest murderers in history?

Basically when i listen to her,she strikes me as a potential prospect that just missed the key opportunities presented to the other two>Granted its not a flattering comparison and i hold you to no account for your support of her. That is my personal feeling on Miss Rand and frankly thats that.

Ayn was married. Not a 'miss', but a 'mrs'

Thanks for the reply, I was just pulling you up on what was essentially a condescending comment to Auspm's hero like you asked ;)

I'm not sure I can call what I have for her is support. I'm just not completely disregarding all of her logic out of hand. I do however think she was a bit mental.

On another note the following seems more of a worry than the carbon tax.

    Ms?

Rand was the extreme of "it's all about me, stuff everyone else but those on Team Rand". Marriage? Would you have called it that?

LOL just a bit mental? LOL She was a fruitcake. Just read between the lines with her books in terms of personal relationships. If we all acted that way, society would be a cesspit minus any social "mores".

She struck a chord with many who are encumbered with guilt. Through her ficticious books, she provided a loose self centered rationale for people to act selfishly and not be concerned by any guilt associated with their actions. Her books and her broard brush philosophy appealed to a lot of people. It was attractive, but only on the superficial level. Star Wars is attractive too, and would appear to have lots of devotees.

I too enjoyed reading her books (though no literary masterpieces). SOME of her messages also resonated with me. But like any cult, one must appreciate what is of value and what is crap. Blind devotees to the Rand philosophising would be a real worry and would deserve their own little utopia hidden in the hills/valleys as craved for.

The power companies are raising prices simply to raise capital in order to make their business more attractive to potential buyers. The politicians know this yet still allow the power price rises which tells us clearly that some politicians are being paid off and should be in front of a jury.

Luke, I agree with you mate and certainly the parts you mentioned went by the way side with me also. The parts that stuck with me are the basic selfish acts that we all take in life. It essentially makes the world go round and the reason we even have trade and an "economy".

In almost every transaction we have with one another there is in some way a selfish act.

How so? TransGrid is a NSW state government owned company and the National Energy Market was set up during the Howard years.

I'm genuinely interested to know who allowed this situation to come about and I'm not going to defend Labor if it was them.

The NSW government owns TransGrid correct. TransGrid transports the power from the Power Plants to the substations from there it is the responsibility of private enterprise. If the Fed Gov't hadn't colluded with the state government to give uncompetitive feed in tariffs on solar panels (because they dont come close to competing with coal) at a HUGE cost to the budget bottom lines the state government wouldn't be forced to recoup those dollars through farcical schemes like this.
