sorry for taking my sweet time on this

I read elsewhere here of interest in seeing the product

I can tell you it is excellently machined, Swiss made

To remove the filter, you need a flat screwdriver

    I haven't done it yet

But the filter is ceramic and silver impregnated (I love that term)

It is built to last for longer than us

foreseeably the tubing is a weak point

if I get around to it, I'll see what it is made of

    The chassis is very solid

Thanx Millededge. That's a top of the line product. How/Why/what process did you use to settle on that model over all the other systems and brands available?

that model is $500 here in Oz.

it is way less bought from the USA

    think it close to 300

I think around 320, but I'll have to check

    Ebay purchase, brand new

It came with a metallic blue steel water canister as a freebie (which is also nice) - stencilled "Liquid Love"

    Thanks millededge.

Managed to get one landed in Oz for $350. Supply's a little tight at the mo, maybe the earthquakes, tsunami's and radiation leaks have got people spooked ?

Yeah, this 'dollar parity' lark is killing my buzz :)
They're a great filter that'll never break or need replacement filters, but the lack of a charcoal cartridge means the it doesn't remove any 'taste'. The Vario is a great little unit, as is those camp filter bags that have a charcoal filter. No pumping required, just fill up the bag, hang it in a tree to drain through into a bucket and a few hours later you've got gallons of clean sweet water!

    P.S.
I've given up on FerFAL ... the gap between what he says, what he does and what I see, has becoming a yawning chasm. I joined his blogg and hit him up with a few questions and was pretty dissapointed with his analysis.

He's coming across like a loungechair rambo. One of his recent posts was about his plans to emmigrate to Northern Ireland for a better life !!!

At first I thought there was a bit lost in translation thanks to English being his second language. But now I'm not so sure he's as sharp a tack as I initially gave him credit for! :/

IMHO, even at parity, it's still cheaper to buy overseas than here.

Have you used that Gorilla tape? Is it any sticker than regular fibre reinforced 100 mile-an-hour tape?

it is much stickier than the silver stuff

meshed, like crepe within the tape, hard to "rip" across

sticks very well to surfaces, but not skin (tried it on my mouth, don't ask)

get the smallest one poss - I think that goes for about 5 bucks on ebay

big one was about 13 I think, but is way too big for a bag, unless you roll a section around a bit of card

width of the big one feels like a bit over 2 inch

Nice choice on the Fallkniven F1. A good bit of kit!

the cheaper Chinese flashlights are good (i have quite a few myself) but a little unreliable for serious situations. I go with either the Fenix of 4Sevens

Really good to see so many SS members also being well equip preppers. I shouldn't really be too surprised though, your all a pretty smart bunch of cookies!

MTE and Fenix made in Shenzen, but designed elsewhere

Have both, but yet to do a head to head

MTE says "made in USA" on the torch itself, however, it seems the company is based in Singapore
