I was delightfully surprised to see a unique item sold in the Goods and Barter thread today (though posted yesterday).

"Huge and stunning Chinese medal. This medal weighs in at just over 450 grams of copper or bronze and is in ultra high relief! The diameter is 80mm and it is 9mm thick!!! It would have been very expensive to make. Looking for 1 ounce of silver for it including postage.

    Translated:
"XinJiang Tourist Board celebrates it's 5,000,000 tourist.

    Minted by the Shanghai Mint.""

An absolutely stunning medallion - and it went for only 1oz of Silver (INCLUDING Postage)!!!

My only regret was not seeing it being made available yesterday!

Congrats to whoever scored themselves that BARGAIN!

I could have sold it a few times over :) I love being able to offer different stuff on that thread. It is one of my favourite threads in the whole forum. Thanks yennus for the help with the translation.

I always worry about the chances of finding another home for these specialist items, in the case I need to resell.
(I realise I am not yet wise in the way of the Panda... :D)

Which is why I look ,,, but havent yet bought.

Let me help you in the "way of the Panda"... I'm not perfect, but hopefully I'm more proficient than I was a few years ago.

Apart from the standard demand of these items outside of China, as China's middle class grows, demand for numismatic and artistic items should grow, just as they have historically in every other country/empire throughout history.

Therefore finding a home for these items (which aren't really specialist items) should get easier with time.

Yup was truly a bargain. Or fair trade. Both parties came away feeling good. I was just too late like the rest of us. Well done Boyou :)
