Jp unless you're born into family money, you start off your working career basically broke. working to stay alive until you can gain the skills and experience to climb out of it. Financial mistakes while on such low wages can look pretty catastrophic at the time but they take a long time to recover from. Most people learn by these mistakes as they are becoming financially literate.

The biggest thing to take away from Bords exercise is to stop worrying about the wealth gap. It isn't anything to be worried about.

I agree. My point was hindsight. Not saving until I was 28. Not starting a business until 26.
I could have started up my own businesses & started saving much, much sooner.
Did I need to smoke a pack of cigs / day for 10 years? Substantial amount of potential savings carelessly wasted.

Least I figured all this crap out before 30 years old. :p

    Smoking!! GRRRRRRR.
Just got into vaping in our house.
Outlay was $60 for the setup and it costs us $10 a week for the liquid.
Lets just write off the original $60 and then we can say it cost me and my girl $10 a week to vape now.
3 Weeks ago we were spending (gulp) $200 a fortnight on this disgusting habit.
I would like to think the the extra $180 a fortnight we save will go into something more rewarding than what it was.
For the dirty old smokers in here i STRONGLY suggest trying out vaping .
We use a weak nicotine solution of 6mg so still get the odd craving but all in all it is very very enjoyable and tastes FANTASTIC.
After a week and your sense of taste returns and no more yucky yellow fingers.

Yep. Been vaping for almost 3 years now. Never any cravings for cigs.
Just gotta find the right device, and the right flavor. Lots of options!
Highly recommend the e-cig forums - always helpful.
Stupid mistakes when young & dumb....
....could have been avoided and saved me $24,000 I wasted on cigarettes. lol

I shudder to think how much we have spent over the years on smokes.
We gave up drinking a few years ago as well and that was another pit for money.
We would go out on a Friday and blow 1K between us drinking and stupid pokies and smoking.
Do not miss the drink and i am loving the vaping.
I am betting that the Government are going to start cracking down on vaping to get a piece of the action.
We are going to start making our own e liquid when the missus gets around to ordering it from the states.
She works in pharmaceuticals so through work it should be dirt cheap.
It is bloody amazing the ACTUAL cost of drugs compared to what they sell for at pharmacies.
She ordered 800 60mg Oxycontin for a study the other day and it cost a grand total of $120NZD.
When i told her what they sell for on the BLACK market she just about choked,LOL

In Otago and you have to be a current addict to be on it.
I think it pays around $1500 for a couple of weekends of your time.
Pretty easy money if you ask me.
Lots of other studies as well though that do not require and addiction.
They are just BE (bio-equivalence) studies and pay around 1k for a couple of weekends of time.
The only downside is having a cannula inserted in your arm and blood taken every hour or so for 24hrs.
    Other than that pretty simple.
Most of the volunteers are students and the smart ones spend their time studying (and getting paid for it).
The others just play pool or watch movies.
When i was working there it was great watching all the little 18-20 girls bouncing around in the knickers and bras and not much else.
Just a shame that i am married to the boss,LOL

Steven Crowder has a great video on this - I enjoy his "to-the-point" but logical and humorous method of getting the point across.
