Well personally I would care about how it would effect my job, but it is very unlikely that it would.

I feel bad for those people loosing their jobs but im not going to cry over it. They will move on, many of them will get big redundancies, shit some of them will retire early and be happy with it.

I bought a brand new Holden not to long ago and a whole good lot that done for that lot.

They'll get a job doing something else?

Australia can't complain about all these manufacturing businesses closing down and then open a new tab in Chrome or Firefox to ebay and buy the cheapest chinese made shit we can find because all the Australian made stuff is too expensive. Everyone here wants to earn $100k but only wants to pay labour prices from a 3rd world country when it comes to purchasing goods. Local businesses with overheads get used for information and then items are bought online because it's cheaper by a few dollars until eventually they close down as well.

Noone wants to do an apprenticeship because they think it's shit money (better than uni pays) so we will end up with no manufacturing at all and an oversupply of unskilled labour until our pay rates and standard of living drop down to the point of being competitive.

Why do you need to own a house when you're 17/18? Doing an apprenticeship gives you a qualification and set of skills that sets you up for the higher paying, more secure job once you're finished. The 4 years of being paid less than your mate driving a truck is more than made up for in the 40 years where you're being paid more and/or having less trouble finding work depending on the economic climate. People want everything handed to them yesterday and complain when they don't put in the hard yards and it doesn't work out like they expected. You might be eating gravy beef and 2min noodles instead of a steak and pints for a few years but I've heard more people say they wish they had done an apprenticeship/degree than I've heard say they wish they hadn't.

If I was Mr Toyota i would sit back and wait for Ford and GMH to leave, and take 100% of the local made market.

Australian cars are sh*t. They're good for a few years and then they fall apart.

Jap or German for me thank you.

I think Holden's bluffing, they've signed international contracts to keep the commodore going well into the 2020's so I don't think they're leaving Australia anytime soon
