    Hello fellow SS'ers,

I have a few kilos of hallmarked Sterling silver to move.

Where in Melbourne would be the best place to take it for maximum return?

    Much thanks.

    Thank you gentlemen.
Yes I will post some images when I am reday to offload.

So far have quotes varying from $0.73 (yesterday) per gram (board sponsor) to $0.87 per gram today.
I think maybe the $0.73 sends it to the $0.87.

Looking for a reliable Melbourne source.

That's not bad as well I guess!

Is that per gram of metal or per gram of silver?

Either way it is hassle free and you can get rid of it in one go without mucking about! That's what you can do for anything that doesn't sell on here!

$27.05 per ounce of sterling which is 92.5% pure silver. Good price for scrap. $29.25 an ounce for the silver component of your sterling, quite attractive price.

$0.73 works out to 85% of spot - which is what just about all dealers I know pay for sterling silver (including W Davis).

Mind sharing where you got the quote of $0.87 per gram from ?

Show us what you have. I'll look at anything that's hallmarked.
By that, I mean more than just "925" or "sterling". I'm not too experienced yet.

I concur, a bar would be great, or maybe even have a go at casting a brooch or something... That should increase value through creativity and craftsmanship.
(although if you dont have the equipment then you probably wont achieve a profit unless you have a decent ammount of silver, which you do)

There seems to be a lot of melting going on in this forum, it is making us coin collectors a bit uneasy.

How about you sell the 925 and use the money to buy a homemade bar from Bazil.

I would consider melting some of my silver but none of my 4 ungilded 1oz Fiji Taku's...i think coins are safe from the melters....

Join a local gemclub (often free). Then you will have access to their jewellry making area. With luck, you will have a small furnace (as our club has) in which you can cast almost anything if you have the moulds. :)

I was contemplating taking the approach from Bazil and the info from the thread just doing it at home with a blowtorch and some wood, besides I don't think we have anything like that here o at least not locally, there is no community here anymore everyone is all for themselves...such a shame.

I have about 15gram of real scrap gold all different karats really small broken pieces that I would like to mash/melt into on solid lump just so I would be harder to lose. Any ideas how to accomplish this? TIA

    Hello SULLA,

What form is it in? Is it jewellery, cutlery, table service or just chunks of metal?
