The PM of NZ has just announced an immediate level 3 pandemic alert in NZ with notice that in 48 hours it will be level 4.
Level 4 means complete shutdown of all school and a lockdown at home for all non essential citizens.

A minimum of 4 weeks is required when the shutdown goes into effect in 48 hours time.
Schools and all other NON essential services are to close.
Supermarkets and doctors and pharmacies are considered essential.
    WELL DONE TO OUR pm.
Im a national supporter to the core but i have to say i am very impressed with the action of this government finally.

I hope Kiwis start taking this seriously.
My wife was at work waiting for a key member to get back from visiting a friend at the hospital and her gym workout.
I shit you not, and that is a common response over here.
A bloody gym workout at a public gym................................................................This is the same member of staff that was going to Auckland next week and has been complaining how pissed off she will be if it gets canceled as she was looking forward to the shopping trip.

Well just when i was in the process of praising our PM i find out that "The Warehouse' store or the big red is staying open because the sell essential items.
Just going to do some deliveries this morning and people are lining up at banks and supers in large masses.
Some have ,masks on and many that do have pulled them down under their chins so they can have conversations , BLOODY IDIOTS.
I even got a couple of smart comments for having my N95 on, they were not rude just cheeky.
People are simply not taking this seriously or do not understand how viruses spread.
Bank machines are empty from what i have seen but of course because im a friendly sort i talked to our local bank girl online last night and she had a couple of grand aside for me this morning.
Talked to my pharmacy girls last night and they had some stuff put away for me and in return they got a brand new box of 35 N95's .
The supermarkets and banks will be hot beds for spread as the staff have ZERO protection on.
Saw a woman in a mask going shopping today and she had her 2 kids in the trolley WITH NO MASKS, WTF?

    What’s a non essential citizen?

    LOL.
At this point "essential citizens" is fire , medical and staff for food suppliers and police .

Unfortunately many shops like the Warehouse and bottle stores are also trying to get on that list and having some success.

I think keeping more shops open instead of less is not going to stop this and just add to the spread.
I suspect you would be onboard with more shops being open as you want commerce to continue?
I honestly see your point and this could be over blown and causing more damage than necessary to economies and people losing huge money in the stock market collapse,
I am really really sorry about my comments to you earlier and i hope you understand that the frustration you have for people of my view is in equal power to the frustration i have with people that see this as overblown.
I will be a lot more careful with my comments in the future and try and speak with more of a tone that show my views are just that ,MINE, and they may not be correct :)

^viewpoints and opinions should be open to correction if facts that conflict with them come to light.
Not saying you are right or wrong @sterling-nz , merely saying one should always have an open mind.

She couldn't find enough food at the supermarket. She's doing her bit to "flatten the curve"

Your worries are valid. The virus only becomes very contagious when the temperature drops to 5-15C. At low temperatures, it can survive in the air and on surfaces for a long time.

Please continue to share what you're seeing in NZ.

Ardern declares national emergency to tackle coronavirus
Wellington: New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has declared a state of national emergency as the country prepared to go into a complete lockdown at midnight to combat the coronavirus outbreak.

The government has commandeered the defence force to assist police to uphold public safety and enforce the lockdown, which begins at midnight on Wednesday.

Police and civil defence personnel have been afforded a range of sweeping powers to close roads, take control of buildings and public spaces, and regulate the flow of food, fuel and essential supplies.

Something makes me think Jacinda is enjoying clamping down on personal liberties....

What ya think NZ members.... you have a national election in Sept. Is Jacinda going to keep that date or find a way to suspend parliament and elections too?

Sounds like Jacinta is enjoying finding out what it's like to experience being a socialist tyrant when the limits to her power are removed. She will probably like it so much that she will do whatever she can to keep that position into the future.
