I have just received information from a trusted source that school closures in NSW will be announced by the end of the week.

let me guess........the teachers will be stood down on full pay while the rest of us have to pull out of work to look after the kids?

    lots of nurses have kids.

give the teachers more pay and more holidays. 12 weeks a year isn't enough.

I can see this being the perfect opportunity to roll out some Universal Basic Income.

not like the kids education would get any worse with them at home playing ipad all day.
Teachers dont seem to teach kids much these days any ways.

My guess is NSW will go into a more general lockdown sometime this week. Similar to what's been done in other countries.

Is a lockdown really the solution though? Surely this'll only work if a vaccine is available in the near future & from what I've read it's at least 18 months away.

I think it's just to slow down the rate of infection so our hospitals don't get swamped all at once. So instead of 1000 people being infected in a week it might be spread over a few months. Unfortunately our hospitals can't cope with a sudden increase in patients.

That is the exact reason. Epidemiologists and medical professionals and creating strategies to reduce the load on the available medical capabilities we have. This will go on until there is either a vaccine or enough people are immune and less people get sick. That is a global strategy.

I was expecting the school closures this week or next. I thought they might try to push it until the school holidays but that does seem a little naive.

We have community transmission and it will start to spread quickly now.

I think in some EU countries they are upgrading the trainee nurses to help out in the hospitals. Perhaps trainee teachers can be called in to lend a hand. Actually I'm on a roll now, ambulance, coppers etc. This means that trainee crims may get a chance as well.

Well if a vaccine is developed and if it was given to those who had not contracted the virus (assuming it was effective) this would slow or stop the epidemic would it not?

This is already happening, a young girl that works part time with my wife is studying nursing at uni and she was notified last week that she may be called to help at the local hospital.

A lot of people are living paycheck to paycheck. Many of my friend$ and family are leveraged up to the eyeballs in debt. Credit cards, mortgage, car loans - there's no end to it. I can't see school closures coming into effect without financial support from 'The Man'. I feel something big bad and ugly is going to result from these events unfolding. Usually in the form of reduced freedoms and liberties and increased dependence and power to the government.

Fines and Gaol time are in place for anyone who breaches public health orders - we're likely to see this taken multiple steps further and people being made example of.

It's far too coincidental to believe this isn't a flawlessly executed and orchestrated set of events. How convenient is it that most people all over the world have been living off credit with little to no savings stashed for a hair brainy day.

Looks like I might be the new resident JLG.

God damn fonts. Which of the symbols allows me to change colours?

Give me a week - I'll be JLG reincarnate in no time.

OMG the man has found colour. I thought I would only have to block one user in my time on SS.

Not worth the Effort - I imagine this will be some peoples response to this event. For those feeling that way - get reconnected with your family, friends and those important to you. Enjoy the fresh air, take in some sea air and remember the simple things in life.

    Potentially yes.
Being i have first hand experience in the trialing of drugs i can confidently say there is NO CHANCE IN HELL i would be using any vaccine they come up with within 2 years.
Realistically though they will not have a vaccine out in that time period anyway.
I am sure they will say they can and expect to but i would not bet on it or use it.

I am no expert in this but because they STILL have no vaccine for MERS i would not hold my breath here either..
How often do people get a cold in their lives?
The "common cold" that we get is generally either a Rhino virus or a COV virus and the fact we have not yet build up a natural immunity to these even after multiple infections should have everyone thinking hard about what we get told about vaccines and immunity with regard to this COVD19

I heard public servants will get a couple of extra weeks paid leave if they have to take care of their kids due to school closures.

Such great advice. Is that you Jesus?
As your mind turns into a scrambled ball of yarn, it's easy to lose sight of where ones true values lie. You couldn't have said that at a better time for me. Thanks!
I mean... THANKS <<< Tom Hanks
