I didn't know Rudd was campaigning for a role with the European Union.

I just chortled listening to Shorten slagging Turnbull over this. According to Bill, this is no way to treat an ex-PM. Bill, you may remember, was the silent assassin who knocked Rudd off in favour of Gillard.

    My thoughts?

"Does brexitbaby know the difference between the EU and the UN?"

But hang on, Rudd could fix the world's economy by using his helicopter money, $900. to everyone....Also he could fix global warming with his pink batts scheme..............I'm glad the PM decided not to inflict this megalomaniac on the world.....

The front runner for the UN Secretary General spot is Irina Bokova, a Bulgarian career politician who is currently the Director-General of UNESCO.

Former New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clarke is also on the 'short list'. She is currently Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme.

Labor are ranting purely as an opportunity to attack the Liberals but secretly every single person in the Labor party are extremely relieved that he is not going to be endorsed.

Shows how career politicians are just like those stupid uni students who need to grow up!

By not endorsing him the memory will last forever which means no elected government will endorse a past opposition politician to run for this type of position because of childish " tit for tat" mentality.

It also shows the world just how small minded and insignificant Australia really is in world politics!

The Queen would have given her approval, perhaps its still an option for kev? and let "our queen" put Malcolm back in his real place. :)

Kev running the UN? I wouldn't want him in charge of organising two chooks in a shoe box.

Normally agree, but with K Rudd I don't think that is the case. From what I've read and heard most labour members don't like him and didn't support him.

Kevin Rudd could never become UN Secretary General for one very simple reason:-

All UN Secretaries-General MUST have funny names:-

    Gladwyn Jebb
    Trygve Lie
    Dag Hammarskjld
    U-Thant
    Bundesarchiv Bild
    Kurt Waldheim
    Javier Prez de Cullar
    Boutros Boutros-Ghali
    Kofi Annan
    Ban Ki-Moon

Despite some amusing permutations, "Kevin Rudd" just doesn't crack it.
(Not sure how Waldheim got in there...)

The Queen would NEVER intervene in such a decision.

Charles 1st made sure of that.

Not so sure about that! Her colony rep can sack a PM and dissolve a government without the House blinking an eyelid let alone raising anarchy.

That's open to debate, it's one of the very first essays you have to write if you study government at Uni. It usually begins with "no and yes", and ends with "no and yes" but depending upon the political affiliation of your lecturer, you tend to lean one way or the other more. It can be the difference between a 5 or a 7. :)

Well, I am surprised that Turnbull made such a bad "political" move.

Firstly, even if Kevin 07 was heartily nominated, he had buckleys chance.

Secondly, it makes him look mean spirited, especially when you look at the way he delivered the message.

Thirdly, did he not even think that Kevin 07 would release the endorsements from earlier? So, now Mal is mean, can't say anything nice and is a liar.

The whole thing is a mess. Bad decision from Mal - when really, there was such a slim chance that Kevin 07 would get in that I would have said risk it.

    Shiny.
