You aren't the only one. I planned to liquidate my S1 Lunar sets to buy a Ducati Monster. Instead I liquidated my S1 Lunar Sets and put the proceeds into silver and gold pandas. Come spring I'll be begging you all to take some pandas off my hands, lol.
[imgz=http://forums.silverstackers.com/uploads/1463_over_7000_aud_purchases_not_including_goldfish_87_pf_panda.png][/imgz] And an additional ~3.5k on Paypal. At this rate I could buy a BMW or something.
Back to the topic of 69 or 70, I would like to hear opinions on paying more for a 70 Early Release vs a 70. I understand that Early Release is giving for submission before a certain date. Does paying premium for say a 2011 Silver Panda justify?
Comforting to hear I'm not the only one, CC's are a blessing and a curse. Now that we're coming to them when they've already moved we have a lot longer to wait for the big returns, I read Badon commentaries whenever I feel depressed at the amount I've invested in them. No regrets. Which lunar type(s) do you have D?
Personally I don't see the early release anything more than a gimmick. A 70 coin is a 70 coin and I wouldn't pay extra for early release or special labels.
I had 6 or 7 sets of the 1 oz. Series 1 Australian Lunars. Just kept one for myself. I haven't ventured into the Chinese ones yet. Want to get a panda set finished first.
That's some affirmation - from Australia and USA. Plus, it does not state in NGC Census how many are MS70, how many are with ER
In my opinion, the "early release" is just marketing for marketing's sake. Some will argue that an early release has the newest die strikes, so the details are sharper and so on. If that's really the case, how is it possible that later coins can still get a 70. There might be *more* 70s in the early releases, but a 70 is a 70.
+1 Considering that only newer coins have "first strike" it is obviously a newly added gimmick... You will not find any 1995 coins with "first strike" labels.
Does it apply to US Mint coins for First Strike and Early Release, for example Gold Eagles & Buffaloes as a gimmick too? Also, I see new Panda slabs with Red Label and a Panda photo on it selling better than the old Brown Label. Another gimmick?
Answer to your first question: No idea, I don't collect useless US coins Answer to your second question: Yes I think it's a gimmick. It's a f***ing label for crying out loud . In fact I'd pay LESS for the new label because it doesn't match my labels from the other years!!!!!!
Just wanted to correct your statement above As for 69/70 it all boils down to what are you doing. If you want to invest then do your research find the best coin in the MS70 within your budget and buy it. This should give you the best return and the rarity and grade should never change. This is still possible for the MS69 grades but I would use the MS69 for a collection, followed by investment second.
This no doubt a pure gimmick, just another way to cash in on the Panda coins. I wouldnt waste my hard earned dollars on them.
ALL ONE BIG GIMMICK......... Red label and panda label are owned by big coin companies in the USA NGC will not let a guy off the srtreet use them , early release and first stike and all that other BS is just that BS,NGC just raised the cost to grade in these early R labels ,it does not cost them a penny more to put a coin in that label, IMHO serious collectors dont want them, if you start collecting panda,s lets say and you got 20 coins in the classic label ,who in the world wants one coin in a set sticking out like a sore d..k ,most registry set guys who are serious dont want them. IMHO ,they dont add anything as far as value to a coin ,coin dies are made from super hardened steel and dont wear out striking silver or gold especially on a run of lets say 1/2 million coins or less .........just my opinion
