    Hey all,

Newb from Brisbane... Don't really know where to begin - I am interested in investing really small amounts but am just worried that it's a stupid idea and that I have no place investing in precious metals when I only have hundreds of dollars to invest at at time...

Would really like to buy some silver just to have as an alternative savings to having money in the bank - don't know where to start!

Don't feel bad about only investing "really small amounts". If you like gold buy 1/10 that's what I did until I got enough to alleviate anxiety http://www.auroraetluna.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=157 Once you have some of those you can save up money to buy larger coins if that is your wish :)

My advice is to buy from reputable sellers (sites sponsors are a good start)

Is there any point in buying small amounts? or is it only for people who have loads of cash and a diverse portfolio...
Was thinking about buying around 10 ounces of silver to start off with... Are there any posts that are really good for total newbs to read on this forum?

I just started stacking and found this thread really helpful: http://forums.silverstackers.com/topic-880-buying-silver-in-australia.html

I found it had a lot of good information on investing in silver, different types of bullions / coins to look out for and what their silver content are etc.

The trading threads on this forum usually has stuff for sale, so just look out for them.

Two of the forum sponsors with online shopping facilities:

    http://bullionbourse.com/
    http://www.auroraetluna.com/

Also if you wanted to you could sign up to trade online with Perth Mint:

Welcome pixha, my humble advice would be to get that 10oz bar or those 10 x 1oz coins that you are thinking about and have a look at it/them. Keep 'em until you have enough for a second lot, then when you do place the $400 dollars odd in cash next to the 10oz and ask yourself which is worth more and which will be worth more. Have a think about it again. If you are worried then come on here and sell the 10oz and don't worry about it again. If not, keep stacking. Best of luck.

My preference is $10 silver coins $20-$23 each
A cheap way in & fall back of $10 face value

+1 to the 10 oz bar, very popular item, especially if it's a First Mint (sorry Perth Mint) or Pamp.

    Welcome pixha,

You are starting off with a 10 oz purchase.

I started off with 1 oz and than i was buying world silver coins ( i knew what to look for so wasnt that
afraid of being induced to buy german silver ) to cut a long story short, buying in $100s at a time is
perfectly ok. Just be regular and always buy, if other expenses pop up, than buy less but buy.

Get some 50 Cent pieces ( 0.34 oz @ 0.800 Ag - part of the monetary history here too and liquid )
you can get the florins & shillings & 6 pence & 3 pence coins too ( calculator for weights is on the forum )

or you can go with Kooks and Lunars and stuff like that.

With $100s at a time you should be fine. just be regular.

    Hey Pixha,

I'm a relative newb from Brissy too. There's a meetup next sunday amongst the group. I'm often around the city during the week and have dealt with a couple of dealers there. Let me know if I can be of any assistance. Your more than welcome to come check out some pieces I've got or come shotgun with me if I'm out buying, might help you see what you wanna get into.

I'd second the 10oz, but going and scoring five 1 oz's always makes you feel good. I picked up a few this week but have started diversifying into granules, coins etc, as well as a good stash of jewellery I pick up.

Fire me a PM if your interested in a pre-meetup meetup. Enjoy your journey!
