Comment about the Panda forum being renamed triggered some thoughts - any interest in new numismatic subforums that don't really get addressed by the current structure? The examples I tossed about were: Australian Pre-decimal US Coinage Ancient Coinage There's thousands of possible categories - any particular ones that are crying out for their own section?
How about a dedicated forum for counterfeits, fakes, advice on how to detect them, ones found when trading, etc.
Is there enough traffic to keep these subforums going? I have been on a number of Australian numismatic forums and they all died a death, low traffic, small number of active posters etc. I wouldn't mind a section on Community Currencies but as there is only me and a guy in Portugal collecting them I can't see it being very active.
It's possible that new sections might generate new traffic. But I would only create a new subforum if there's a clear demand for it.
Sure adding new categories may drive new traffic and certain add to knowledge. * Australian Coins and Notes * International Coins and Notes * Counterfeits and Fakes I don't think ancients are that popular to have a section as they could be posted in International coins and notes section. JM2C
I'd have thought a single post would cover both rather than an entire forum. (Although the misadventures of sammy may be a book series the size of Game of Thrones.)
I don't think SS needs any further subforms at the moment. I do like how you have a separate section for coins, and I may do the same on The Silver Forum. But I would recommend is maybe putting in the description of Silver and Gold, (Coins have their own sub forum below) because then it makes a clear statement where topics/threads about coins should go. Or maybe I am misunderstanding the coins subform. Is this actually only for collectors? Because I am still a bit confused. Topics about coins that people are interested in collecting go in the coins section obviously. But stackers buying multiple of certain coins and want to discuss what is the best investment etc. Should these types of threads go in the silver section or the silver coins section? :S
There are some that are alive & kicking, but I believe they are more operated & visited by collectors in the US. However, from what I recall, SS is only half-Aussie. A portion of my stack/collection consists of slabbed world coins, mainly dated from a few decades to a few centuries old, with Ag content at least .500, and typically in the .800 to .925 range. Certainly nothing high-roller, but obviously more $$ than a current 1-oz Kook or something, heh. It seems the current Numismatics sub-forum is dominated by Aussie stuff -- and not always necessarily Ag or Au. Oddly, I don't really dabble in that space (or in US coins, for that matter). Though I noticed from a few posts/threads in the past, that if one is coaxed enough, other collectors of older numismatic world coins start popping out of the woodwork. I believe there's more of us out there, and also to a deeper extent, than it might appear otherwise on the surface. Though who knows how active it would be in the beginning. I know I'd post there sometimes, anyway. Build it, and they will come?
