I heard this the other day on the radio and found the discussion on the web. Makes a bit of sense regarding the new landscapes from the rains etc...

So is there anyone having any success, do we have many prospectors here ? I suppose no one is going to give up any spots but a few good yarns would be interesting :)

Haven't been out for a year or so, it makes sense though. In California about 8 years ago we used to pan a particular river where mud & silt accumulated in a particular rock formation - come back in two weeks and it would be full of mud & silt again, and more gold would be found.

If you found a gram in a day's panning it would be considered unbelievable - panning is a prospecting technique for tracing alluvial gold in a river to the source so it can be extracted, it's not an actual "mining" method. Good fun though and there's something addictive about seeing colour in the pan.

Bushfires are of more interest to detectorists - gets rid of all of the scrub so you can detect previously overgrown areas.
