It seems that I'm having a difficult time making a deal on these 27gram silver gems an acquaintance has. Any clue as to what these are worth in sealed packaging?

Acording to the pricapedia by Peter Anthony,
    83 $2035
    84 $1460
    85 $1592

These prices do vary as they don't come up often. Last auction 2/12

All I am thinking is ouch
    Hope this helps
Panda kings feel free to correct my reading of the priceapedia

    83: 2035 and 1739 (auction ebay usa)
I personally dont buy i expensive coin withouth grade 69 or 70.
    84:1460 omp 1368 ms68
    85:1750/1592 (last auction)
    1475 ms68 in ebay.
I think the fair value in omp for me is 83 less than 1500.
    84 1250/1300
    85 1350
But i dont buy in omp.
If you are in usa. I think is better ncs and ngc grade it and sell for more than omp.
I dont collect less than 1989 because are very expensive. But if i will buy it. I prefer pay 100 or 200 uss more to buy graded and not in omp.

These coins are like the BIG3, but on a whole different (and higher) level! :)

It's hard to get a good (BARGAIN) deal on these, even in China.

    I think there's a set of 3 on eBay for $9000 in PF69 NGC+NCS.

Way out of my price range :/

I think the 2000 mirror in ms69 conserved for 1250 is expensive

So, would $4000 for all 3 be out of whack?

The prices of these are often very conditional on coin condition... I would recommend personal inspection of the coins with 25Grizzlies (ehehe... he has one of the keenest eyes when inspecting coins).

I agree, these coins are on a different plane... in the future these will be HIGHLY sought after, especially the '83... it already is.

In my view MS68 in these coins is adequate for investment, I have to disagree with Thor on only buying 69/70s and paying the big premiums. These 3 proofs for me are more important to hold the coin than the grade, besides my '85 MS68 is flawless to the eye apart from some nice, uniform toning. Was graded a long time ago so it may even regrade higher if resubmitted. That's a point, you can resubmit a cheaper coin and hope for a better grade.

Anyways that '85 is one of my favourites and will be in the collection for a long time.

Ask yourself if you would rather a 69 '83 coin or a 69 '95 micro date. For me the answer is not black and white but I would lean towards the former.

Uh... that's cheap, even in OMP... too cheap without questioning the source.

My faith in our educational system has been restored.

The very first bullion coins I ever purchased were from this seller back in the late 80's. He actually mentioned buying from Panda America to me today and I'll edit this to add some of the other things he has that I got buy prices from Apmex for. You'll laugh..trust me...

and here is the edit...the dollars are US from Apmex...and no they won't be buying them...
    1986 5 Yuan Silver Wildlife Panda --$70
    1985 5oz. Silver Panda--$400
    1987 5oz. Silver Panda--$180
12 oz. 5th International coin expo Hong Kong--$600
    1983 Sealed 10 Yuan Silver Panda--$700
    1984 Sealed 10 Yuan Silver Panda--$600
    1985 Sealed 10 Yuan Silver Panda--$550

The prices listed are what Apmex quoted me if sold to them, yesterday. Their buy prices.

I'm sure they're trying to protect themselves, but they're also in no danger of purchasing at those prices.

It's nothing personal, but to me nothing ventured equals nothing gained.

(check out what they're selling those coins for, the ones they actually have)
