I had better qualify my above post, as I remember now Bron was still working at the Perth Mint and could not, or would not talk about their business specifically, but he was talking about milk spots generally. Cheers. _JLG.

A-Z are you sure we really put someone on the moon? Why hasn't anyone done it since then - even with all our technological advancements? Inquiring minds would like to know - mine? But I do believe there will be a way to remove the spots someday, just as I believe someone will really land on the moon one day. :)

There's about as much chance of somebody landing on the moon as there is as somebody landing on the sun. ;)

As for milk-spots, I have the solution: Don't let them happen in the freakin' 1st place...

White spots on silver coins happen frequently. The purer the metal, I think the worse it becomes. Seen more spots of maples as they .9999. No mints is immune and can guarantee won't happen. Even recently slabbed coins will have them and I see NGC turn a blind eye to them and still grade them 70.

Found a 2016 medal, (2016 CHINA 65g PANDA-GREAT WALL OF CHINA PF70....NGC 2062778-001) and it has spots. Spots visible even during encapsulation process....

I'm not touching that no moon landing theory but regardless, humans are incredibly resourceful and innovative and I just have to accept the notion that someone will devise a way to remove milk spots without visible trace of such removal.

Well yes of course, but good luck with convincing the mints to change their manufacturing process. I don't think that physical silver buyers can effectively boycott the mints as a way to force them to change their production practices and I don't know of another way to coerce the mints to change so long as people are buying their silver products.

Are you sure that's not dust? The environment for slabbing is not dust free and I have plenty of slabbed coins with small amounts of dust particles on the inside of the slab...including non-silver slabbed items. I don't know if the purer the metal the more spots....but a chemical engineer would likely know if that was scientifically plausible. Spots is a modern manufacturing-caused problem. I have proof silver coins produced from before the recent 2000's and none that I can tell have milk spots.

As for grading companies like NGC, their policy is to take into account certain milk spots in the final grade....depending on the size and location on the coin. Also, no TPG can guarantee that the coin won't develop milk spots after encapsulation.

Last year I saw an NGC MS70 FR 2015 RCM coin that was fairly heavily milk spotted on reverse and obverse. There's no way that I'd believe NGC gave the 70 grade to that coin in that condition....that level of spotting would have occurred after the encapsulation. Slabs are not air tight and so environmental factors can affect a slabbed coin. I have a few of that same exact coin graded MS70 that I purchased in 2015 and all were flawless. I haven't looked at them since wrapping them in double plastic and sealing them so no air gets in. The point is, if NGC graded mine 70, there's no way they'd have graded that milk spot covered coin of the same type a 70.

Check NGC photo on their webpage which PF/MS 70 has white spot and not dust.

Part of Grading result depending on grader mode and you luck.

I get better result in first batch of sending the temple of heaven bimetallic, brass and AF brass. BUT my 2nd batches and 3 batches are worst than it.

    Especially 3 batches which antique brass 80% PF69 and 20% PF68.

If flipper get bad result and they will curse you and discredit you baseless since they cannot flip the coin.

It's interesting that the antique silver only graded 30% 70.

It is luck which one of my USA customer get 3 pieces PF70 out of 5 pieces with different varieties SENT. I get lower result than my first batch.

I am awaiting my 3rd batches result.
