    U.S. Economy Grinds To Halt As Nation Realizes Money Just A Symbolic, Mutually Shared Illusion

    WASHINGTONThe U.S. economy ceased to function this week after unexpected existential remarks by Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke shocked Americans into realizing that money is, in fact, just a meaningless and intangible social construct.

    What began as a routine report before the Senate Finance Committee Tuesday ended with Bernanke passionately disavowing the entire concept of currency, and negating in an instant the very foundation of the world's largest economy.

    "Though raising interest rates is unlikely at the moment, the Fed will of course act appropriately if weif we" said Bernanke, who then paused for a moment, looked down at his prepared statement, and shook his head in utter disbelief. "You know what? It doesn't matter. None of thisthis so-called 'money'really matters at all."

    "It's just an illusion," a wide-eyed Bernanke added as he removed bills from his wallet and slowly spread them out before him. "Just look at it: Meaningless pieces of paper with numbers printed on them. Worthless."

    Nice one 'Fe Mike' !

    Dmitry Orlov touched on this in his recent essay "Peak oil lessons from the Soviet Union" (Feb 2,2011) about what happened when the Soviet economy finally collapsed and includes this quote;

    ...because of rationing, even if they had money, russians couldn't just buy whatever they needed.

    I fear that we in the west will find the transisition far more painful.

    The essay is available here as both video essay and transcript;

    That's a LOT of honey. I bought 2 500g jars today and I though I was going over the top :)

    I did notice that 90% of the honey offerings were in plastic though. I'd be assured of the long lasting honey, but not sure how long it takes for the plastic to deteriorate.

    Dont forget olive oil or fats. Most energy dense food group there is. Antarctic expeditions drink olive oil at regular intervals for energy. Cant imagine sucking on a sauce bottle full of oil, but whatever keeps you alive I guess.

    And it will not get any cheaper.
    Only one way for prices to go.
    Supply & delivery will be costing more.
    Bees on on the decline.

    That was awesome.

    But it does illustrate quite clearly that all fiat currencies are nothing more than a confidence game.

    Remove the confidence and what's left?

    Fortunately, most people out there have the IQ of a cupcake, so things continue to roll on just swell and we get Silver and Gold in exchange for paper with nice colours and pictures of dead people.

    Makes you want to go out and buy a few ounces more, doesn't it?

    ;)

    LOL :D

    But seriously, this thread makes me think about stacking more than just silver as a contingency against a range of possible future scenarios. I have no idea what else I should be stacking though.

    How about accumulating multiple streams of income that will feed you?

    You cant eat silver and you'd get sick of honey after a while.
