    Hi,

just wondering if anybody went to the event in sydney or melbourne recently, and if so are they able to give us a run down on what was discussed.

It was meant to be partly about the australian real estate market, and i'd like to know what he had to say about it.

    Cheers.

Would so love to be there...any chance someone there could record a blurry, jumpy video on their camera phone held above everyone's heads for the 5 hours? :/

Mudgekko wears something like that for his downhill MTB runs... HD video and audio clear enough to hear his collarbone break when he crashed...and the words that came afterwards :)

I'd pay $18 just to see the reaction on Mike Maloney's face when some tool walks into the presentation room wearing one of those :D

There was one at the Sydney event on official duty - but on a hand mount, not head mount.

Mike Maloney reckons Australia is screwed, in part because our banking sector is 10 x GDP. GDP is about A$1.3T, so by his reckoning our the Australian based Banking system is about $13T, dwarfing our economy and putting our savings at risk of confiscation in a bailout should asset values drop significantly.

Pretty scary stuff when you look at his chart comparing US (2xGDP), and other country's banking systems with an obviously oversized Aussie banking system. Puts one in mind of Cyprus!

But, I can't see any referdnce for the Aussie banking system being 10x GDP.

Anyone got a reference for that?

Just back from the Melbourne presentation - a lot more material than the Sydney event.

Brain is too tired to post anything meaningful about it right now though.

There were several cameras there. Jenny from Guardian said they'd be posting something soon.

She also mentioned Mike is doing an interview with Ross Greenwood and some other media. Should see him on Sky, and AFR.

Was a great venue and well organised. Amazed they put it together in less than 6 weeks. One lucky guy won an ounce of gold.
Kudos to the Guardian crew. :D

And the banking system is propped up by high real estate prices.

So the future doesn't look good for Australian banks, real estate or derivatives.
