Thought I would show off another one of my Medals. Like alot of others on here in the Panda forum I collect many types of MCCs.
This one is similar to what comeaux posted in the panda photo thread. This medal is from the series of twelve constellations and animals. The series started in 1996 through to 2007. The obverse of the medal depicts the 12 constellations, while the revesre depicts the design of the animal.
The 1998 medal reverse depicts the design of the jade hare in the palace of the moon.
    Mintage 5000 medals.

Never seen it before. Interesting design and the medal looks very good in terms of quality and condition.

This medal is for year of the rabbit, I assume there are 11 others out there which have a similar design/mintage.

    Nice one !

This is why I love MCC, new (old) stuff keeps popping up and keeps it interesting

Yes Fishball got to love them. There are 12 in the series but they are so hard to come by. The only other three I have seen are for the year of the Rabbit. Even after searching for the past 18mths. So it would be interesting to see how many are floating around. I would love to get the other 11 medals.

If you have someone in China to do the sourcing work for you, I believe many of the brass medal are widely available in China at very attractive price.

Anyway this hobby of brass medal collecting is getting some encouraging momentum in China now.

Very unusual in that it has Western astrological signs on it.

Also in US as well ... there is a 1983 1 yuan brass panda NGC PF70 Ultra Cameo selling on ebay right now and still has 6 days left, bidding is already at $1,250 !

I heard the rare 1985 brass panda sold for over $30,000 !!!

I like all of these medals whether made of brass, copper, silver or gold ... if the coin has an interesting design, low mintage and rare, I'm interested !

Yes ... I love pandas but these medals are very mysterious and intriguing. No "tar & feather" from me at all man, I'm loving these !

I really don't care what a few people "claim" is popular right now ... it's what's popular in the future is what is important to me. As low stated these are gaining in popularity in China, that even peaks my interests even more ;)

I don't think there are any people on here who ONLY collect pandas.

Even yennus has interest in other coins apart from Pandas lol.

I love the variety in MCC myself, but now it has become a messy thing for me. I am like < 30% complete on most NGC competitive sets because I keep spreading out and getting sidetracked :/.

    It's good fun though :D

I know how you feel fishball. I am always telling myself right no more until I get the rest of that set. But of course as soon as I see something I like I buy it and then start searching for the rest of that set. And so the process just goes on and on. My wife just looks at me and laughs
