The steel case (If it's made of steel) would be worth more than the electroplate PM's contained within. However on an industrial recycling scale the recovery would definitely be significant. Modern computers contain more silver inside than gold these days. You'd be better off recycling photographic chemicals or old xray slides if you wanted to move into PM recycling. But then there are companies that do that anyway. Ever thought about diggin for it ?
Apex is out of 100`s it is reported on the kitco forum. In Vancouver JM coin & Bordergold still have 100 oz. Me thinks the pickings are slim. Have a line on a sellers personal stash. She needs money to finish a reno. About $4,000 worth of silver. Sweet!
I actually lolled at that. You have a wicked sense of humour Incidently, I can put my hands on quite a lot of old broken computer parts for nix. I've got a number of broken CPU fans/heatsinks that have a very large rod of Copper in them (maybe 2 oz per heatsink?) which can be removed with ease. I can also put my hands on about 100-200 sticks of old RAM that's Gold toothed. Whaddya reckon? Worth scooping up and trading here maybe for pure at a fair percentage?
If nobody here wants them, i have seen bulk lots of CPUs & RAM sold on ebay for their gold content at reasonable prices for the seller.
ive seen them on ebay US too they dont get a lot but it might be a liitle earn in it.i even researched how to get the plating off & the simplest way ive read is an etching solution thats used for electronics u put them in there then strain the solution through coffee filters but who knows if it works
Some auctions go for a decent amount. $530USD for 27 Pentium Pro CPUs. Item number: 370477848139 Not bad considering most people would just throw them out....
from my research the early PCs have the most gold- thicker plating. Theres obviously money to be made or they wouldnt sell whos going to be the first to try? & would they tell ?
http://www.montrealgazette.com/busi...slow+death+recycling+waste/3246736/story.html The risks posed to those who handle the cast-offs are clear to T.K. Joshi, head of the Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health at the Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi. He studied 250 people working in the city as recyclers and dismantlers over 12 months to October 2009 and found almost all suffered from breathing problems such as asthma and bronchitis. "We found dangerously high levels -- 10 to 20 times higher than normal -- of lead, mercury and chromium in blood and urine samples," he told AFP. "All these have a detrimental effect on the respiratory, urinary and digestive systems, besides crippling immunity and causing cancer." Toxic metals and poisons enter workers' bloodstreams during the laborious manual extraction process and when equipment is crudely treated to collect tiny quantities of precious metals.
tying to arrange a monster box of PAMP 1kgs from GC dealer and they will/have not got back to me... now 3 working days
lol, just got back from a conference so haven't been checking SS. "Pick your world view"?? wtf. I relayed something that happened to me today. It wasn't a world view.
Alright, my bad, apologies. But doesn't change the fact that KJC told me they are getting a tonne in. Slam
Already had the 1.5 ton order, ready for delivery. KJC order yet to arrive. I think this was the confusion.
Just a quick aside, I contacted KJC here in Sydney yesterday about stock and they told me they have everything at the moment, but unless you're buying in quantity, you're going to pay through the nose for it. They have Perth Mint, Maples, Eagles, Philharmonics etc but unless you're buying min 20, you're going to be paying a whopping $44 PER OUNCE for coinage. I nearly spat my coffee over my computer monitor at that! Even Downies at Town Hall are only charging $38 an oz for singles (Perth Mint) only a short walk away those guys typically ARE the most expensive in Sydney! I really want to favour KJC and start buying there regularly, but anything short of a tube is VERY heavy on the premiums with these guys at the moment. I was really upset too because I like to buy an oz here and an oz there and having access to international silver seemed really nice. I see now why their stock levels are so good... who's going to buy bloody silver at $44 an ounce at the moment?
Perth Mint current buy-back price for 1oz silver coins is $27.24/oz. Not far below spot. MUCH better than what it used to be!
Auspm; you can get single coins from Bullionbourse for $35 to $37 and lately there service has been very good!
