Anyone in the game long enough to shed some light on why does Series 1 starts with Year of the Rabbit? (Chinese Horoscope starts with the Year of the Rat isn't it?)
The Perth Mint released the Rat, Ox and Mouse in 1996, 1997, 1998 in gold and then there was sufficient interest to make some in silver so they started the next year in 1999 with the Rabbit.
Probably just me, I find starting series in the middle of a sequence less "perfect/complete" for me. It's like collecting a Zodiac set starting from Gemini. There's no denial the coins fetch a good premium now though. Then again, if George Lucas make Star Wars Episode #4 before #1, I guess I have to learn how to accommodate this.
Now I know why I can't find 1996 silver rat coin series 1. I didn't know they only started silver with the rabbit. Thanks heaps for this info. I can stop looking now.
