^ Series 1 has probably fallen back a bit in line with spot. You'll find spot +100% has been the norm for Series 1 Lunars, so when spot was $40 asking $80 was pretty much the selling price. With spot now about $30, Series 1 you could expect to sell around $60 for the less popular years like Monkey and Goat. People will ask for $70 for these years but not sure they will sell at that price.
Ignore if this has already been brought up. Is it possible that the increase in production will up prices on the older lunars? With more out there more people know about them and take interest. More people = more interest in the series = more demand for the lower mintage older lunars = higher prices. Thoughts?
I think I have a solitary 1/2 ounce dragon and 10 of the bullion 5 oz dragons that I bought when at $27 spot. They are stunning and I'm pleased I bought them. I also thought the mintage on the 5's was pretty low? Just following eBay Euro action lately the 1 oz dragon has been poor, some 30% or so lower on an MS69 than the few shop dealers I've seen that still have stock for the bullion coin! I agree though the whole series now feels like it's done to death. Every time I visit a bullion site it's yet another snake version. I've started to diversify and reduce the numbers of a variety of coins instead and I'm happy to do that rather than be in big on a perceived 'banker coin' anymore. Bought a few Somalia elephants and even the cheetah of late; hopefully there will be a few bison left if we have a final leg lower. Bulk will remain pandas though for me. Mintages are up as we know but I still sleep easier at night with them as my core holding and that is worth a lot for me when spot tumbles!
I think I have a few NIMSCIMSB* lying around somewhere. *New in Mint Sealed Capsule in Mint Sealed Box
Good time to be buying series 1 lunars with the price dip. IMHO undervalued and good long term potential. Nicer design than series 2 and low mintages.
He can speak for himself but I think he handles them that way in the videos for the presentation. Hands in white gloves makes for a nicer video view than someone's actual hands. I for one appreciate his videos and the effort he puts forth in making them and hope he keeps up the good work!!!
...seems like we are killing the series ourselves with the latest trade threads and offers...just ridiculous...they are still lunars...
I am still very interested in any rolls or boxes if anyone doubts or wished to reduce their exposure I don't wish to pay retail but genuinely happy to try and beat the best dealer buyback prices.
last week bought tiger, rabbit ... and lunar 1 goat for $41/coin delivered silver should be stacked as low to spot as possible, but for collection purposes lunar is not dead .... speculators are burnt others just enjoy the current market
dealer buyback price is usually spot...I dont think anyone would sell lunars with spot this low...and of course anyone would beat their(dealers) price
if one corrects previous sky high prices for lunars and try to match it to todays spot then everything will match ...
Those are Unbelievable prices....2oz gold mouse lunar II for almost $10,000. 2oz silver mouse lunar II for nearly $1000. Reminds me of the time a Thai chap at a bangkok market tried to sell me a fake rolex for $12,000 haha....i said: 1. what makes you think I'm walking around with $1000 rolls in thailand ? 2. and if I actually wanted a rolex at original cost....then i would just go buy from their store direct wouldn't I? he still insisted it was genuine...lol Not saying they are fake but Please tell me no one pays this kind of money for these coins...especially through ebay....sheesh!
lunar horse still available..hmmm...makes me thinking...a wise man told me that the horse is the most popular after the dragon in the chinese zodiac...if not the horse(as still available and the proofs nowhere near the dragon prices)which year will turn around series2?
After the horse, I doubt there's any other animals I would be interested to collect. Personally only looking out for the dragon (only mystical creature in the series), and the tiger (year I was born in).
