    Hello,

I have just started collecting the Lunar coins and wanted to know what is the main difference with the coins that have the Lion Privy on them versus the ones that do not i.e 1 oz Luar S2 Snake / Horse

Are they more rare / collectable, worth more, same or less

Do you guys have a prefference on the privy or non privy coins, i am looking for a mid-long term inverstment on them

I noticed a dealer has the non privy horses and snakes listed at a higher cost compared to the privy ones, i would have though it would be the other way around

Also do the normal and Privy 1 oz count in the same 300k max mintage

All informative responces are highly appreciated

Privys were made for a German dealer who ordered them
Most people don't like them as you will never get a set together of them

Spanner monkey is wrong. You can find and aquire over time a complete set. They started with the dragon w/ lion privy. As far as pricewise, most will say that they are worth less because they are not a "true" lunar coin, but what most people fail to realize is that in order for a COMPLETE set, you have to have one specimen of those privy as well lol. I collect one each regular and privy. Honestly, they are like the gilded, proofs, and colored ones. It's just another example really...

Thank you for the helpful advice.

I have purchased a roll of Prive dragons last week and have found a dealer which has rolls of the privy snakes and horses up for sale so if i grabs a roll of each and then find some privy goats i should be upto date with the privy set and then i will have to work on getting the non privy ones

    Unless i am missing something

Privy coins are controlled by the whim of a German dealer and the PM. The regular lunars are governed by law. Big difference. The PM can stop minting them at any time and is likely to do so. See the 1/2 kilo coins. A standard lunar set is the bu versions, not privy, gilded, colored or proof coins. The lunar series boxes have 12 spaces, not 24. Perhaps privies gain recognition as bastard children over time, but not right now. Understand that there is as good a chance as not, that the privy coins will end with series 2. Series 3 lunars will likely have a higher mintage limit and the need for privy coins will not be necessary. If I am correct, there will not be a complete 12 coin set of privy lunars.

One reason lunar collectors dislike the privy coins is that they were minted as a way for the PM to avoid the 300,000 mintage imposed by the WA government on 1oz bu series 2 lunar coins and cash in on dragon mania. Bu Dragon buyers got financially burnt and there is still ill will towards the PM for the Dragon privies.

I do not desire privy's and I would not pay for a coin with one on it.

For a full bullion dragon set of 12, you need one Privy to complete it.

Flyinfree is correct, and there will never be a complete set of series 2 privys, because as stated earlier, it started with the dragon lol. But then again, who is going to complete a set of 1/2 kilos? And for the rest of the series, all it takes is at least an order of possibly 50k, and the Perth mint will make it for anyone...anytime. same as the kilos....they can be reminted as stated in earlier posts.
