I got 2 Proof Libertad's of ebay which showed up today, the only problem is i don't think there proof coins. They have a frosted background like my normal 1oz Lib's.Anyone got one at home or seen the real thing that can give me an idea before I send a nasty email to the seller. Also one coin has a few marks on it. Here is the ebay number 310313760565, he has them as 2011 and my coins are 2010.
I'm far from an expert but I do vaguely recall reading somewhere on the net that the silver libertad proof were only in mirror-like not frosted. It's the internet so it could be wrong but that said hopefully someone here can verify for you.
Go to APMEX and check the libertad section for photos (quite a few there) and see which one your coin matches. At least then you have a reference point if you make a complaint.
By no means an expert (on anything) but, Very deceptive listing... The pic appears to be one of a proof coin, lifted from the Bank of Mexico site, the item title says "proof", and then in the description it says "BU".. I don't have any proof libs, but I would most certainly expect to see a mirror-like polished background .. The difference between Proof & BU is readily apparent here >> http://www.pandaamerica.com/mexican_libertad.asp?keyword=libertad&sortby=entrec If the coins you've received are the same as your normal 1oz libs, then I'd say you have grounds for a Item Not as Described dispute... Good luck with it.
Hi Projack, they look like the coins you sold me 4 weeks ago and I;m sure you didn't sell me proof's .
Had quick look at the web site, I've got the BU coins for sure, not even the right year, guess i'll email the seller.

I don't know if this is the correct place to ask this question, but I don't want to start a new thread every time I write something. I have the opportunity to buy a 1oz gold libertad (2002) graded MS68 by NGC. I don't really care about grading, but I prefer my coins to look new. Does a MS68 even command a premium for relatively new bullion coins? Would I get noticeably more for this rather than a brand new coin? If it doesn't really matter, I would prefer smashing the box and put it in an air-tite...
Does anyone know when the Bank of Mexico typically releases the mintage numbers for the year? I believe that I came across an article a few months ago from early December 2013 which had quoted the mintage numbers for 2013 (?via Don Bailey and son)... Cheers, Luker
