    Breaking:

In the Liberal Party room meeting that began a short while ago, Malcolm Turnbull has declared the leadership of the Liberal Party vacant.

    He will recontest his position.

It's on. This is the PM challenging agitators to put up or shut up.

And Turnbull survives for now but more than 1/3 voted against him. Dead leader walking!

48 votes to 35. Does this mean Dutton is now toast, having failed to topple Turnbull?

I could not think of two less worthy individuals for the position of PM than Malcolm Turnbull and Bill Shorten. How did we come to this in Australia?

We do not need political representation ... particularly that sort of political representation ... they have a tendency to do dirty deals behind our backs ...

    Democracy is dead in Australia

"AUSTRALIA has become a “laughing stock”. Our democracy is dead, and its killers are now running the country."

"Both our parliament and our parties have now descended into anarchic farce. And the carnage has been so mindless, the idiocy so virulent, that it can no longer be contained."

If enough people refused to vote it would send a clear message to Canberra ...

They'd be happy at that. Fewer balls to juggle.

Australia is just taking a play from the USA playbook. C'mon folks, don't use us as a model, learn from our bad example.

Having the CFMEU running Australia for its own benefit will be a real barrel of laughs. Let’s hope for a useless hung parliament that can’t grt anything done. At this point no government is a better option than government.

Would be good to see Dutton take this out. May well be the start of the Libs differentiating themselves from Labor and a return to Liberal values, like freedom, integrity and individuality. Policies absent of late and certainly absent in the ALP and Greens. Would make a welcome change from the lurch to the left we’ve had under Turnbull.

they didnt learn much from the labor implosion, effectively handing them power. maybe dutton will run on a ticket of overturning same sex marriage and a white australia policy?

He voted "Yes" in parliament to amend the marriage legislation, not sure why he'd campaign against it now, and where are you getting your info about his desire to return to a White Australia Policy? Sound like it's straight out of the Di Natale press releases. :p

On the topic of SSM, what would be good would be legislation upholding religious freedom, of which he also supports. Something Turnbull, Labor and The Greens are opposed to for no good reason except that it supports their belief in having the State dictate what an individual should believe and how they should act.
