Hi all, it is that time of the year that bonus is coming through (wooooo!), and I want to diversify my stack and get some coins to offset the bars, so when silver reaches its true value I have the option of selling smaller portions.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone thinks there is an advantage in stacking kooks over maples or eagles for example. Assuming you can get them all at the same price, the only benefit I can really see is the maples are 9999 purity whilst the kooks and eagles are 999. In terms of design, personally I like the stately design of the silver eagles the most - very elegant. The kooks are always very high quality strikes, whilst the maples are a bit boing really. One advantage of kooks though would be you might be able to get a small premium if sold individually due to the year, but that is really only going to be the case if sold on ebay and someone liked that particular design. Not sure if being legal Australian tender has any benefit for us?

I'm guessing I can answer my own question, but I'm curious to see what reasoning others have used to make their decision.

I doubt that you will be able to get them at the same price.

    from cheapest to most expensive
    Maples
    ASE
    Kooks

Id go with Maples and Austrian Philharmonikers

capsules are handy on the kooks but take up extra room. Personally i do not trust ase's as they are american legal tender... Maybe irrational, but hey a blokes allowed a couple of irrational fears

Currently by the roll, can get:

    ASE: $38.135/coin
    CSM: $37.939/coin
    Kook: $38.160/coin

granted there is +5 in a maple tube

Do the kooks come in a tube like the ASE's and maples, individual capsules or carded when you get "rolls" of 20?

Here in Europe, bought from the best bullion dealers the premiums ( before sales tax ) on coins are typically as follows -

    Kooks - 15%
    Maples - 8%
    ASEs - 11%
    Philharmonics - 8.5%
    Libertads - 11%
    Britannias - 19%
    Pandas - 34%

When it comes to selling there is much less difference between the coins.

On e-Bay ( UK ) the Kooks beat the Maples and ASEs all the time.
The Perth Mint coins are minted like reverse proofs and encapsulated so look very fine indeed. From my point of view the quality of Maples is dubious in looks and are the cheapest - more like a bullion round but their value is the silver content. The added purity doesn't make a cent of difference .
If collecting for weight buy the cheapest.
For finish quality the Kooks, Lunars, Kangaroos etc from Peth Mint.
The best of both ASEs or Philharmonics ( but the smooth edge isn't as nice ) or Libertads.
For future resale value - Britannias and Pandas.

That's my view anyhow and prices might be different in Aussieland.

Are the coins in individual capsules, then shrinkwrapped? or no capsules for a roll?

I agree Photon, the maples seem more like bullion coins like eagles
