Hey Stark. That is a very tough call my friend. I simply love all 3. If I had to pick one. Probably the Bejing. although, if I didn't have so many medals with the Great Wall, it would be tops on my list! I love that thing!!

Also, which metal do you like best with respect to how the medal itself looks? Silver or brass? Let's just ignore the worth of the metal itself for a moment!

Are you sure? Are you being swayed by the silver content? I have read ?here and elsewhere that brass is probably the best for making medals and sculptures. Remember all those brass, copper and bronze statues and medals? (Please note that I have bought silver and brass medals over time). This is an entirely good natured academic discussion. And I accept your vote for silver if that is your final vote!

I think it's safe to say that many of barsenault's views are from people watching them more than once, LOL.

As for selecting just one, too difficult!

I've never seen any in person, but I think the most recent is proably the weakest of the three. Still really nice, just not as nice as the 1st two, at least from photos & videos.

Sadly, I've pretty much resigned to not getting any of these in Ag slabbed. The PM budget isn't where it was once at, and there are other pieces & categories that are competing for shrinking funds.

I might "settle" for brass for these. Less expensive, but still hot!

Besides, I have enough Ag.. Brass = more variety to the collection.

Just squint your eyes, and pretend it's gold. ;)

Both have their pro's & cons, honestly.

Metal content, obviously Ag wins hands down.

Aesthetics? Hard to say. I've had both metal/alloy of the same medal in hand at the same time, and I still can't decide which looks better. Will say that brass has a slight edge in crispness, brightness & "pop."

(Photos not equal size or equal lighting, unfortunately. But good enough!)..

Yellow metals like brass, copper, bronze, and gold look really good. The only place where silver may have the aesthetic edge is in mirror proof finish...silver really shines when highly polished. But since these medals are not mirror proof, yellow metals look really nice in the matte finish.

You are absolutely right. Wait for the Nanjing mints matte/antique finish yellow metals. Mintage 30 only. Distributor, collectors, designer, dealers and mints department staff get it only.

I might sell mine if the price is right. I need to raise some money for the next project coming in October.

Copper = red, not yellow. :p

Honestly, I think brass & Ag are pretty aesthetically equal, at least with these types.

Sometimes I think one looks a bit better than the other. But, it alternates. Therefore, equal!

I don't have any brass medal, only few bronze coins. The rest is silver. It would be easier to say if you have different ones in hand.

Despite I like gold also, I think I prefer silver. That "coldness" of it. Also, at least in Europe, gold is sometimes referred as a metal for "women". :D

But yeah, considering the prices and rarity of some stuff (gold or silver) it's good that there are some medals available in different materials.

Interesting re: masculine/feminine for gold/silver in Europe..

In quite a few parts of the world, it's the opposite, from what I understand.

Even in the Spanish language, the words for gold = masc (oro), and silver = fem (plata).

Anyway, it's probably a good thing for a few people's wallets that they don't make these types of medals in gold.

    Would be pretty sick, though..
