Remains to be seen how this one goes seeing it was only released yesterday. The Red Back was created as a one-off, to mark the 50th anniversary of the anti-venom. It was not planned to be a series and wasn't called "Deadly and Dangerous", but I guess due to the success of that coin they decided to create more. There's a noticeable change in style from the Red Back to the Great White Shark and all following releases. It's natural that the longer a series goes the less enthusiasm there is for it, but all previous coins have sold out regardless of the time it took, and that seems to be a good result for the makers who couldn't care less about how they go on the secondary market. I'm sure we'll see more in this series in future years.
They have about 10 left in the Downie's Melbourne store if you are interested. They are only allowing one coin per customer.
It's like the Tasmania Endangered and Extinct series, it seems to drag on a bit but perhaps soon they will run out of animals to put on the coins so they will have to go blast a few critters with shotguns to keep the series going.
I'm sure once they're done with Aust animals, they'll move on to the rest of the world. Would love to see one of these guys on a coin...
Are all the previous coins in this series as expensive as the redback? Or have some gone down in value?
at least box jelly fish coin has gone below the issue price that spider also not much higher than issue price
According to Eurocollection, this is the last coin in this series. And now Perth Mint still have 44 in stock. and there is no limit now. and it is cheaper than Downies.
Also the 6th coin was supposed to be last coin in series, because the coin series was matching the stamps series made of the 6 dangerous animals. But after that more coins came out cause there was still more market request. Now maybe the series will be stopped cause I think the series is not so popular anymore. Alex.
I see a lot of posts about how this series is dead. Perhaps? However, it is hard to justify a mass exodus toward these coins, when spot is at 22.00 and change, and these things are at 100+. IMHO...and that is humble opinion, if these were priced at 70.00, they'd be gone in a flash. I bought 35 of these at 90.00 including shipping. I think this coin will increase significantly in value in short order...all bets are off if spot hits 17.00!! I still think it will hold value at 90.00. Better than worrying about a bank run. Or ZIRP. Or getting CYPRUS'D. LOL. If you had the chance to hold one of these bad boys in your hand, for sure you will say, 'WOW!' IMHO.
This snake looks a little funny to me. I have shark, brown snake, tuvalu spider, and jellyfish. I would really have a hard time picking the favorite. I think that shark is my least favorite decpite being the oldest (and most expensive). Maybe snake is my favorite, jellyfish and spider are also very nice. What I like about the series are the boxes (outer, paper one). But I think that series is overpriced probably because of red spider.
Stark, how funny, I love the crispness of the snake on the new series. I guess that's what makes the world turns. LOL. At 90.00 all in, including shipping, I just couldn't resist buying 25 of these bad boys. I figure the worst I'll do is break even, but in 5 or 10 years...lets talk again. LOL.
Well I have to see it in live, as any coin. Wanted purchase it, and probably have, to have the whole series (except red spider, unless will have too much money to spare ), but Mongolian Crying Wolf and some other coin got higher priority.
