I am really interested in Ireland right now and am interested in knowing more about their current and ancient monetary system. My current question is if they are minting any gold legal tender coins? Like the gold and silver eagles that we have in the States?

No, nothing like an AGE or Krug is minted, only commemorative or collector coins.

Although a bit of AGE trivia is that Augustus Saint-Gaudens who designed the 1933 Double Eagle was born in Ireland but emigrated to NY before he was 1.

Irish gold coins are rare, I remember being at a coin fair in 1979 in Dublin and this fellow walks in, he was grubby as and still had a metal detector on him. He plonks a bag of mostly copper but some gold and silver coins down in front of one of the dealers and I remember the dealer saying, I'll give you £50 for that one, £100 for that one etc. That was a fortune in those days.
